APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When the Tivoli Storage Manager server or storage agent fails
    to open a tape device due to incorrect path definitions, then
    there may be no appropriate message describing the cause of
    the problem in the activity log (actlog).
    
    In a particular case only the following message was written to
    the actlog in the storage agent or library client:
     ANR0530W Transaction failed for session nnn for node
      NODENAME (Client Platform) - internal server
      error detected. (SESSION: nnn)
    
    A storage agent or library client trace
    (trace enable PVRNOIO MMS ASMONT ASVOL ADDMSG)
    showed that the errno value 2 (ENOENT) was returned from a
    UNIX system:
    
    19:54:08.074 [98326][pspvr.c][3644][PvrPsOpenDevice]:open()
     with errno is 2 devName is
     /dev/lin_tape/by-id/lin_tape1164366021 rc 2843
                                            ^^^^^^^
    
    Error 2843 means :  GRC_PATH_INVALID_DEVICE
    
    However, Tivoli Storage Manager does not have a message to
    indicate such an error.
    
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager server and storage agent versions
    affected: 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and 7.1, on all platforms.
