Error description

  • During cross platform Server upgrade from a UNIX V5.5 Tivoli
    Storage Manager Server  to a  V6.3 or V7.1. Server on Linux, the
    upgrade fails at InsertDB process.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: Cross platform Tivoli
    Storage Manager Server upgrade from V5.5.7
    to V6.3.4.x  or V6.3.5.x  or  V7.1.x
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    This APAR is very similar to IC97407 but the root cause and
    solution is not the same and the error is also a little
    different.
    Here the problem happens because there are some full volumes
    that were filled in one write pass.
    The affected volumes have one column in the table
    AS.Volume.Status (column ASVS_APPENDPOS ) which is empty and
    that causes a problem to the insertdb process.
    In this case here, the error message will always show
    "Unexpected pos length 0" .
    
    On V5 server, the following commands may be used to detect
    volumes that will be affected by this problem:
       create sqlt AS.Volume.Status asvs
       select c0,c1,hex(c9) as c9, page from asvs where hex(c9)=''
        drop sqlt asvs

    We can see that the C9 field is empty.
    A "show node <pagenumber>" will show the ninth string as "empty
    string" for our volume record.
