IT05164: ARCHIVE LOG FILES ARE NOT DELETED AFTER DATABASE BACKUP FOR 7.1.1 SERVER

Error description

  • After upgrade to 7.1.1, archive log files are not deleted after
    database backup completes.
    
    The failure to delete archive logs occurs if an incremental
    database backup was run or if a full backup was run and it
    processed across midnight local TSM server time. This problem is
    related to APAR IT02910.

    The archive log directory can be checked to see if files which
    should have been deleted after the full backup still exist.

    This issue only exists in 7.1.1

Local fix

  • 1) Do not perform incremental TSM server database backups and
    ensure that the duration of the full backup process does not
    cross midnight local time. For example, if the full backup
    starts at 11 PM and ends at 1 AM the issue will be encountered.
    If the full backup starts at 11 AM and ends at 1 PM of the same
    day then the issue will not be encountered.
    2) Manually delete orphaned archive log files. These can be
    identified by looking at the archive log time stamp and ensuring
    it is from a time prior to the last full database backup
    completion.
