Error description
The Tivoli Storage Manager server instance configuration wizard (dsmicfgx) can fail with the following error when defining the credentials for the instance user ID: The user ID already owns a server database. Issue DSMSERV REMOVEDB to remove the existing database, or specify a different user ID. This error occurs when the user ID already has a defined server database, which means that server configuration has previously taken place. If an administrator intends to overwrite the previously defined database, they can issue the DSMSERV REMOVEDB command to do so as explained in the error message. This command alone, however, does not resolve the error in dsmicfgx. Customer/L2 Diagnostics: None. Initial Impact: Medium Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All Tivoli Storage Manager servers users of dsmicfgx. Additional Keywords: TSM DSMICFGX CONFIG CONFIGURATION REMOVE DB REMOVEDB CATALOG UNCATALOG USER ID INSTANCE ID USERID INSTANCEID
Local fix
After issuing the DSMSERV REMOVEDB command with success, ensure that you uncatalog any remaining database aliases from within DB2. To do this, issue the "db2 list database directory" command to determine if there are any remaining database aliases. For example, as the instance user (or via the DB2 Command Line Processor on Windows): $ db2 list database directory System Database Directory Number of entries in the directory = 1 Database 1 entry: Database alias = TSMAL001 Database name = TSMDB1 Node name = TSMNODE1 Database release level = 10.00 Comment = TSM SERVER DATABASE VIA TCPIP Directory entry type = Remote Catalog database partition number = -1 Alternate server hostname = Alternate server port number = There should be only one entry reported and the database alias name should be "TSMAL001," otherwise do not continue with these steps. After confirming that there is a single "TSMAL001" database alias remaining, issue the "db2 uncatalog database TSMAL001" command to remove the remaining DB alias. For example: $ db2 uncatalog database tsmal001 DB20000I The UNCATALOG DATABASE command completed successfully. DB21056W Directory changes may not be effective until the directory cache is refreshed. Once the alias has been uncataloged, restart the dsmicfgx utility and the error will no longer occur.
