IT02092: MISLEADING MESSAGE "ANS1309I (RC9) THE REQUESTED DATA IS OFFLINE"

APAR status

Error description

  • During a restore operation, the Recovery Agent cannot read data
    stored on Tape or VTL if the storage type is set to 'Disk' and
    viceversa.
    
    The Recovery Agent log TDP_FOR_VMWARE_MOUNT40.sf shows:
    
    E18.XPR MOUNT : AFS::TSM_ReadFile: Error on DSM_GetData 9:
    ANS1309I (RC9) The requested data is offline.
    
    The message is misleading because let understand that the data
    is not available on the Tivoli Storage Manager server.
    
    In case the data is available on the server, but it is stored in
    a different storage type, the message should instruct the user
    to switch the storage type on the Recovery Agent side in case
    the data is stored on a different device type.
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
    Tivoli Storage Manager Recovery Agent Versions 6.4.x 7.1.x on
    all supported platforms.

Local fix

  • To change the storage type in the Recovery Agent:
    Click 'Settings' in the Recovery Agent GUI and select the
    correct storage device from which to mount the snapshot. You can
    select 'Disk/File', 'Tape', or 'VTL'
    When the storage type is changed, you must restart the Recovery
    Agent for the changes to take effect.
