Error description

  • When running CLP with command input from a file and the file
    contains /* */ comments on separate lines causes the command to
    fail silently on Solaris with DB2 9.7.

    A file containing the lines:
    connect to sample;
    /*
    select * from employee fetch first 10 rows only;
    */
    connect reset;

    will fail silently. Whereas a file containing the lines:
    connect to sample;
    /* select * from employee fetch first 10 rows only; */
    connect reset;

    will produce the error message:
    DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because
    it was not a
    valid Command Line Processor command. During SQL processing it
    returned:
    SQL0104N An unexpected token "END-OF-STATEMENT" was found
    following "ly; */
    connect reset". Expected tokens may include: "JOIN
    <joined_table>".
    SQLSTATE=42601

    This only effects DB2 9.7 on Solaris. Later DB2 versions on
    Solaris produce the expected error message. DB2 9.7 on other
    platforms produce the expected error message.

Local fix

  • Use the recommended comment characters (= and =) instead of /*
    and */.
