Error description
On rare occasions Tivoli Storage Manager server can crash when an NDMP backup or restore operation is initiated. This is the result of the server using a system call which is not thread safe. Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: Version 5.x, 6.x and 7.x of the server. All linux and unix versions of the server can run into this problem. Customer/L2 Diagnostics (If Applicable) Call stack from core file may look similar to this: ndmpConnect (connection=) ndmpSession (ndmpcmdobj) spiSessInit (gHandle) ssInitStoreRemote (sessHandle) AfInitStoreRemote (sessP=) bfInitStoreRemote (moverName DoBackup (cmdP) AdmBackupNode (cmdP) AdmCommandLocal (cmdP) admCommand (cmdP) SmAdminCommandThread (smCmdP) StartThread (startInfoP) start_thread () from /lib64/libpthread.so.0 Just before the crash, the actlog may show multiple backup node commands starting. Local fix
Until fixing level is available, preventing concurrent NDMP operations will greatly reduce the chance of this crash from occurring.
