IC99077: SECOND SESSION MAY CRASH TSM CLIENT BACKGROUND PROCESS WHEN STARTED WITH INVALID CLIENT OPTIONS

Error description

  • After having run one or more sessions successfully,
    initializing the next session may crash the client process,
    if in the meantime one or more client options were changed
    to an invalid setting in dsm.opt, dsm.sys or within the API
    functions dsmInit() or dsmInitEx().
    
    This defect affects Tivoli Storage Manager Client background
    processes which create several sessions in succession.
    Such background process can be any of the following:
    
    Windows client services:
      dsmcsvc.exe, dsmcad.exe, dsmagent.exe
    
    UNIX daemons:
      'dsmc sched', dsmcad, dsmagent
    
    Application client background processes using the API Client:
      prole.exe, prole = service / daemon process
          of Tivoli Storage Manager for Enterprise Resource Planning
      Other applications using the Tivoli Storage Manager API Client
    
      Customer/L2 diagnostics: A core file may be created.
    Product versions affected: All Tivoli Storage Manager Client
                               versions prior to 6.4
               Initial impact: Low
