Error description

  • Tivoli Storage Manager Client Graphical Interface freezes when a
    user tries to print the "TivolI Storage Manager Help"
    documentation.
    
    The problem is  reproducible as follows:
    1. Start the graphical interface
    2. Select Help from top menu and then "Getting started..."
    entry.
    3. A new window  is opened titled "Tivoli Storage Manager Help"
    4. Click on the Print icon
    
    From that moment the graphical interfaces freezes and from the
    Windows Task Manager it is possible to verify the CPU and memory
    increase constantly their memory and workload usage.
    The printer queue is continuously on spooling but nothing is
    printed. As consequence a crash may occur on the system if the
    process javaw.exe is not killed before that  all the system
    memory is used.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    It has been verified that the problem is on the Java library
    used by the client (which happens to be IBM Java 7) that does
    not correctly manage the print spooling.
    If the Java console is enabled the following error can be seen:
    
    Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0"
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

    The problem occurs due to an incompatability between the
    version of Java included with the Backup-Archive Client and
    the Java Help also included with the Backup-Archive Client.
    

Problem conclusion
