Error description

  • Problem Description:
    Tivoli Storage Manager Server 6.3 is unable to correctly operate
    with the drives DON UDO2 60GB in a Plasmon GX 24 Library.
    Although the device classes, paths and drives are correctly
    defined the following error is returned everytime a tape is
    mounted:
    
    ANR1401W Mount request denied for volume <volume name> - mount
    failed.
    
    A Tivoli Storage Manager Server trace (PVR MMS NA ADDMSG) will
    show:
    
    14:19:03.170 [170][pvrodsk.c][3328][ODskDefaultCapacity]:Using
    block
    size 8192, number of blocks 3669718.
    14:19:03.170
    [170][pvrodsk.c][3352][ODskDefaultCapacity]:Couldn't match
    capacity with entries in the Device Support Table.
    ====>  14:19:03.170 [170][pvrodsk.c][691][ODskOpen]:Wrong format
    of the media,  mount failure. <====
    14:19:03.171 [170][mms.c][1567][MmsDismountVolume]:Dismounting
    volume
    <Volume Name>  from drive OPTICAL_LB0_DR1 (/dev/rop1) in library
    OPTICAL_LB0.
    
    External tools like lbtest and optest can read and write
    correctly on the devices.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    The problem is  that  the coded Device Support Table has not
    been updated with the 60 GB format for the specified device.
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
    All Tivoli Storage Manager 6.3 on all platforms
    All Tivoli Storage Manager 7.1 on all platforms

Local fix

  • Setting the format to a value less than 30 GB will allow the
    device to work correctly.
