IC97454: INCORRECT TIME OUT ON VOLUMES THAT ARE MOUNTED FOR A SHORT TIME MAY END IN ANR8925W MESSAGE

Error description

  • A library manger tries to reclaim a drive when a library client
    cannot successfully confirm a drive in use to the library
    manager.
    This can happen when multiple short mounts happen within five
    minutes for the same drive.
    
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    
    The actlog of the library manager shows:
    
    ANR8925W Drive ABC in library IBMTS3500 has not  been confirmed
    for use by server TSMLIBCLT for over 900
                            seconds. Drive will be reclaimed for use
    by others.
    
    On the library client TSMLIBCLT no error messages are logged.
    
    A library manager trace with trace flags PVR MMS NA enabled
    shows that volume 123456 is in use in drive ABC:
    
    12:36:57.332 [28727][smlshare.c][5311][DoConfirmMP]:Confirming
    mount point for class 3592, libName IBMTS3500, devType 25,
    format 0, mpToken 2, mpTimeStamp 10/11/0113 10:36:57, for drive
    ABC, volume 123456.
    
    But within the next five minutes messages are logged that for
    this volume 123456 no mount point exist:
    
    12:39:31.901 [19][pvrmp.c][8610][UpdateAllMpPings]:Error mp time
    stamps don't match 10/11/13 10:15:39, 10/11/13 10:36:57.
    12:39:31.901 [19][pvrmp.c][8620][UpdateAllMpPings]:Cannot find
    mp trying to find using volname 123456.
    12:39:31.901 [19][pvrmp.c][5241][PvrFindVolumeMp]:Locating mount
    point for volume "123456", devClass=3592.
    12:39:31.901 [19][pvrmp.c][5268][PvrFindVolumeMp]:Volume
    "123456" not found in mount list.
    12:39:31.904 [19][pvrmp.c][8448][FindVolumeMPAll]:Mount point
    descriptor does not exist for volume 123456.
    
    As result,  the library manager attempts to reclaim the drive
    which is still in use by the library client.
    
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
    Tivoli Storage Manager 6.1,  6.2., 6.3 all versions

Local fix

  • Increase the LIBSHRTIMEOUT option to 45 ( default is 15 ) on the
    library manager. The LIBSHRTIMEOUT option controls how long it
    takes before a library manager gives up on a library client and
    starts trying to take back drives. Increasing the LIBSHRTIMEOUT
    option gives the library client more chances to get a good drive
    confirmation to the library manager.
