Software planning

The following products and functions which were supported on IBM i 6.1 are not supported on IBM i 7.1. Plans should be made to replace or discontinue use of these products and functions prior to upgrading to i 7.1.

IBM Navigator for i:
heritage version only
Effective December 31, 2022, IBM is withdrawing support of the heritage version of IBM Navigator for i from all releases of IBM i through IBM i 7.4.  Refer to heritage Navigator in this Security Bulletin.  Customers can use the new IBM Navigator for i.
IBM Navigator for i Due to changes in how browsers handle self-signed certificates, IBM Navigator for i will no longer be shipped with TLS enabled by default.  Users can configure TLS using the instructions found at this link: IBM Navigator for i - TLS Encryption.
5739-ZC1 Zend Server Basic edition Effective June 30, 2020, IBM will no longer deliver Zend Server Basic edition with the IBM i operating system (5770-SS1). Effective June 30, 2021, Zend Server Basic support is withdrawn completely. Clients who wish to continue using Zend Server can acquire the software, licensing, and support directly from Zend by Perforce. Clients who wish to use the open source Community PHP may acquire an Open Source Support contract from IBM (http://ibm.biz/ibmi-oss-support). 
5722-WE2 IBM Web Enablement for i Migrate to IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.5.5 or higher.  Older versions of WebSphere Application Server require Java 6 which will be going out of service in December 2017.
5733-W80 IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.0 Migrate to IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.5.5 or higher.  Older versions of WebSphere Application Server require Java 6 which will be going out of service in December 2017.
5733-CY2 System i Cryptographic Device Manager Upgrade to 5733-CY3 Cryptographic Device Manager for i.
5761-DG1 HTTP Server

HTTP Server (Powered by Apache) is out of service as of December 2017.  Move to a new version of the IBM i operating system.

5761-DG1 HTTP Server Option 1 Trigger Cache Manager Use clustering and load balancing capabilities in WebSphere Application Server.
5722-DR1 IBM Director 5.2 Use IBM Systems Director 6.1 or later. Download the latest version.
5761-JC1 Toolbox for Java Use Toolbox for Java shipped in IBM i (5770-SS1) Option 3 Extended Base Directory Support. There is also an open source version of Toolbox for Java available: JTOpen

5761-JV1 Developer Kit for Java Option 6 Java Developer Kit 1.4


Note: Java 1.4 is no longer in support.

Upgrade to newer Java level using Option 13 of Developer Kit for Java (5761-JV1).

5761-JV1 Developer Kit for Java Option 7 Java Developer Kit 5.0


Note: Java 5.0 is no longer in support (as of May 2015).

Upgrade to newer Java level using Option 14 of Developer Kit for Java (5761-JV1).
5761-JV1 Developer Kit for Java Option 10 Java SE Development Kit 6

Note: Java 6.0 will go out of support in December 2017.
Upgrade to newer Java level using Options 11 & 12 of Developer Kit for Java (5761-JV1).

Note: Options 11 & 12 of Developer Kit for Java (5761-JV1) are going out of service in December 2017.  Upgrade to a newer level of Java using Options 14 or higher.
Lotus products for IBM i (Domino, Quickr, Sametime, etc.) Most of the currently available Lotus products require the most recent release for use on IBM i 7.1. The required releases may not be available when IBM i 7.1 is available but are expected to be available within 90 days of 7.1 availability. Do not upgrade to 7.1 until confirming that a supported release of the product is available.

5761-LSV Extended Integrated Server Support For Linux on iSCSI attached BladeCenter and System x servers, IBM recommends that customers migrate the Linux server to a Virtual Machine on VMware ESX using IBM i support for VMware ESX running on iSCSI attached BladeCenter and System x. However, the VMware ESX hosted Linux servers would not support save while active, file level backup, or virtual optical and tape support.

For Linux running in IBM i hosted partitions, IBM continues to support hosting of Linux partitions on the i operating system but save while active and file level backup is not supported with the IBM i 7.1 release.

5733-OPS IBM i Open Source Solutions

IBM i Open Source Solutions packages are now delivered via RPMs rather than via 5733-OPS Licensed Program Product (LPP) options.  For more information on how to acquire the software via RPMs, refer to the documentation at http://ibm.biz/ibmi-rpms

Effective September 24, 2018, the following options no longer receive support or fixes:

  • Option 1 (Node.js beta release)
  • Option 3 (chroot and compiler enablement)
  • Option 5 (Node.js version 4)
  • Option 8 (Eclipse Orion)

The remaining options will no longer receive support or fixes beyond the following dates:

  • Option 2 (Python 3.4): February 28, 2019
  • Option 10 (Node.js version 6): April 4, 2019
  • Options 4, 6, 7, 9, and 11: December 15, 2019

All future open source packages are delivered via RPM only.

5733-PS1 5724-PS1 Secure Perspective Secure Perspective for IBM i is available as a custom offering delivered by the IBM Systems Lab Services and Training Power Services team. Support and enhancements for this tool on future releases of IBM i will be offered as part of the Security Services offering. For more information, please reference the IBM Systems Lab Services and Training web site.
5761-SS1 AnyNet Upgrade to Enterprise Extender which is included in IBM i (5770-SS1).
5761-SS1 WRKORDINF RQSORDAST WRKORDRQS IBM recommends that customers use IBM Electronic Service Agent Inventory to collect system information and send to IBM. Electronic Service Agent ships with the IBM i operating system.
5761-SS1 Option 41 (Clusters GUI only) High availability environments (clusters) can to be managed either via GUI or CL command using the PowerHA SystemMirror for i (5770-HAS) product.
5733-W60 WebSphere Application Server V6.0 Upgrade to WebSphere Application Server V6.1 (5733-W61), V7.0 (5733-W70), or newer.
5722-XP1 System i Access for Wireless Customers who have Internet access on their wireless devices may use a browser based solution to access their IBM i system. For example:
5761-XE1 System i Access for Windows Direct Attach Operations Console The Operations Console is included in the IBM i Access for Windows product, 5770-XE1. For i 7.1, Operations Console will only support the local console on a network (LAN) configuration. The local console on a network configuration, commonly referred to as LAN console, connects the PC and system using a network adapter on the PC and system.
5770-XE1 IBM i Access for Windows Effective April 30, 2019, IBM has withdrawn support for IBM i Access for Windows (5770-XE1).  Replacement product is IBM i Access Client Solutions (5733-XJ1).  Refer to https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg3T1026805 for more information.
