Problem
This document provides information about collecting APAR data for an FFDC entry and about using FTP to send the data to a PC. From the PC, it can be submitted as an e-mail attachment.
Resolving The Problem
This document contains information from Info APAR II12327 - Detailed instructions for submitting APAR data (for an FFDC-generated problem) to the Rochester Support Center. Additional instructions have been added for submitting the save file as an e-mail attachment.
To save the APAR data for the problem, do the following:

To save the APAR data for the problem, do the following:
1. | On an operating system command line, type the following: WRKPRB PRBID(xxxxxxxxx) where xxxxxxxxx is the actual Problem ID number. Press the Enter key. |
2. | Select Option 8, Work with the problem, and press the Enter key. |
3. | Select Option 30, Save APAR data to APAR library (SAVAPARDTA) , and press the Enter key. |
4. | Use Option 1 to select the following items: History Log Program Temporary Fixes Error log Entries by Time Range VLIC log Entries by Time Range Problem Log Entries by Time Range Press the Enter key. |
5. | For each selection, type the following: Beginning time = hhmm (military time) Beginning date = mmddyy Ending time = hhmm (military time) Ending date = mmddyy Press the Enter key to save. |
6. | Press F12 to advance to the next item selected, key information above, and press the Enter key to save. Repeat until all selections have been processed. |
7. | When you have returned to the Save APAR Data screen, note the name of the APAR library (at the top of the screen ... QSCxxxxxxx), and press F3 until you have exited completely from the Problem Log Entry. |

1. | On the operating system command line, type the following: CRTSAVF FILE(YourLib/YourSavf) where YourLib and YourSavf are the name of the Save file you are creating and the library you want to create it in. Press the Enter key. |
2. | On the operating system command line, type the following: SAVLIB LIB(QSCxxxxxxx) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(YourLib/YourSavf) DTACPR(*YES) Press the Enter key. |

You can use these instructions to FTP the save file from the IBM i to the PC:
1. | On the PC, open a DOS command prompt window. |
2. | Change to the PC directory that you would like to download the file to. Example: CD\MyDirectory Press the Enter key. |
3. | Type the following: FTP SystemName or FTP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where SystemName is the System i name and xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the System i TCP/IP address. Press the Enter key. |
4. | When prompted, type your user ID, and press the Enter key. Then, type your password, and press the Enter key. |
5. | Type the following command to change to binary mode: BIN Press the Enter key. |
6. | Type the following command to set the name format: QUOTE SITE NAMEFMT 0 Press the Enter key. |
7. | Type the following command to change to the System i library where you created the save file: CD YourLib Press the Enter key. |
8. | Type the following command to copy the save file to the PC: GET YourSavf Press the Enter key. |
9. | Type the following command to end the FTP session: QUIT Press the Enter key. |

You can upload the save file via the support portal or send an e-mail to the ibmi_support@ecurep.ibm.com e-mail address. In the subject line, you should include your Case number as in this example:
