Error description
Assertion errors may occur while unpacking a QDIO input buffer when a packet is either malformed or invalid. Repeated assertion errors may result in a program interrupt. The error log would contain a QDIO transmission error: DTCQDI001I QDIO device DEV@1100 device number 1100: DTCQDI012E encountered a transmission error DTCQDI013E Input queue 80000000 location: 02 error code: 00 index 00 Followed by TCPIP assertion errors that could look similar to this: AMPX036I ASSERTION FAILURE CHECKING ERROR TRACE BACK OF CALLED ROUTINES ROUTINE STMT AT ADDRESS IN MODULE QdioUnpa 1812 00E1373A QDIO_Pol 334 00E12A90 Schedule 802 00CA8704 <MAIN-PROGRAM> 14 00BE11FE TCPIP VSPASCAL 00E3EAEA AMPX014I PROTECTION EXCEPTION TRACE BACK OF CALLED ROUTINES ROUTINE STMT AT ADDRESS IN MODULE QdioUnpa 948 00E133DA QDIO_Pol 334 00E12A90 Schedule 802 00CA8704 <MAIN-PROGRAM> 14 00BE11FE TCPIP VSPASCAL 00E3EAEA AMPX036I ASSERTION FAILURE CHECKING ERROR TRACE BACK OF CALLED ROUTINES ROUTINE STMT AT ADDRESS IN MODULE QdioUnpa 1790 00E13724 QDIO_Pol 334 00E12A90 Schedule 802 00CA8704 <MAIN-PROGRAM> 14 00BE11FE TCPIP VSPASCAL 00E3EAEA

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All z/VM TCPIP users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** When a packet is either malformed or invalid, assertion errors may occur while unpacking the QDIO Input buffer.
Problem conclusion
When improper or invalid packets are received, the QDIO unpack routine in FPQDIO is incorrectly handling them. This results in one or more assertion errors. FPQDIO has been updated to correctly handle improper and invalid packets.
