IV71256: SAP UUID_CREATE() STALLS DUE TO NDD_LOCK SERIALIZATION APPLIES TO AIX 7100-03

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Applications that query network statistics currently must
wait until any other query is completed. Some network
devices such as san storage (npiv) can wait many seconds
for a target devices to respond and the query to
complete.

This can result in functions such as uuid_create() which
indirectly query network to pause many seconds. This has
negative consequences for applications such SAP.

Local fix

  • If a call to netstat -v stalls before completion then
there is exposure to this problem.

Remove all unusued/unconfigured npiv devices from the
client lpar. Confirm netstat -v does not stall before
completion.

Problem summary

  • uuid_create() may hang for over 2 minutes whenever there is
a non responsive npiv adapter(Ex fcs switch is messed up)
and they call uuid_create()

Problem conclusion

  • Ndd lock serialization is fixed.
