APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Some old levels of FC adapter firmware had an issue where
the adapter would erroneously return an error continuously.
Normally, that would result in an I/O failure. However, there
is one case where it could cause the PCM to indefinitely
retry reading information from the LUN, causing an I/O hang
    instead of an I/O failure.

Problem conclusion

  • Modified the PCM to check for excessive retries when rereading
    the LUN access state information.
