IV68229: RMSOCK COMPLAINS WITH "GETPROCDATA: MALLOC FAILED" APPLIES TO AIX 7100-03

APAR status

Error description

  • The command:
rmsock Address TypeofAddress

Will produce the error:
getprocdata: malloc failed

Example:
rmsock f1000e0002be4bb8 tcpcb
getprocdata: malloc failed

Local fix

  • Reboot the machine.

Problem summary

  • rmsock fails with "getprocdata: malloc failed" if number of
processes running are more than 1907, which causes rmsock to
malloc for more than 2GB.

Problem conclusion

  • The code of rmsock has been fixed so that it now requires less
memory during malloc.
