APAR status

Error description

  • 802.3ad link aggregation with a backup adapter defined
where the switch port connected to the backup adapter is
not configured as 802.3ad mode experiences etherchannel
    total failure if the below condition is met;

    1) all main adapters get link down,
    2) backup adapter becomes the active channel,
    3) then later one of main adapters's link becomes up but
LACP negotiation on this port is not completed

Local fix

  • Configure switch port of backup adapter as 802.3ad mode

Problem summary

  • In IEEE802.3ad mode, force failover from backup to primary
channel may not work and hence backup will remain active
    until etherchannel is rebuild(rmdev/mkdev).
This behavior will lead to total etherchannel
failure when backup goes down while primary link is up.

Problem conclusion

  • Etherchannel driver code is fixed to allow force failover from
    backup to primary.
