The command "ifconfig enN netmask a.b.c.d alias e.f.g.h" does not add a new alias but modifies an existing entry.
Local fix
Change the order of the "netmask" and "alias" arguments to ifconfig so that the command syntax used is ifconfig enN alias e.f.g.h netmask a.b.c.d
