Error description

  • The lowest allowed RPC timeout on AIX NFS client (all NFS
versions), is 5 seconds. This is a hardcoded lower limit.
In the case of NFSv4, the nfs4cl command allows admins
to incorrectly set values less than 5 seconds using the
setfsoptions subcommand. A low value for timeouts, such
    as
1 second, causes frequent RPC timeouts in cases where the
NFS server is very busy and IO calls take longer than
    1 second.
Problem does not happen when configuring the timeo option
using mount command. This is an issue only when the
"nfs4cl setfsoptions timeo=X" command is used.

Local fix

  • Do not set "timeo" option to less than 50 (5 seconds).

Problem summary

  • Frequent RPC Timeouts occur on the customr's system

Problem conclusion

  • In update_args(), add a check for upper and lower limit bounds
    for timeout values
