APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • calls to pathconf() doesn't close the fd.
That makes for example nmon, that is using pathconf
to keep the hdisks opened as long as it is running.
Thus that disk is busy while it should not.

Local fix

  • If the hdisk is busy, fuser will show the pid that keeps
it open, in this case nmon.
Closing nmon, will allow that disk to be removed or
    modified.

Problem summary

  • pathconf() subroutine leaving fd of disk open
may cause other disk related command to not
    work correctly.

Problem conclusion

  • pathconf() subroutine code has been change to close the
    disk fd after using it.
