APAR status

Error description

  • Rollback of external snapshot on large J2
    filesystem(larger than 8TB or 8192GB)
    results in corrupted filesystem
    
    After the Rollback attempting to mount the filesystem
    gives error:
    
    test:/# mount /my_large_fs
    Replaying log for /dev/test_vmax_lv.
    mount: 0506-324 Cannot mount /dev/test_vmax_lv on
    /my_large_fs.
    The media is not formatted or the format is not correct.
    
    fsck on the filesystem will give the following error:
    
    test:/# fsck /dev/test_vmax_lv
    
    The current volume is: /dev/test_vmax_lv
    fsck: 0507-020 Invalid magic number in the primary
    superblock.
    fsck: 0507-013 Invalid magic number in the secondary
    superblock.
    Primary superblock is corrupt.
    Secondary superblock is corrupt.
    fsck: 0507-018 Superblock is corrupt and cannot be
    repaired.
          Both primary and secondary copies are corrupt.
    Cannot continue
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Rollback of external snapshot on large J2 filesystem(larger
    than 8TB or 8192GB) results in corrupted filesystem.
    

Problem conclusion

  • corrected the code to aviod filesystem corruption.
