Error description

  • In an LDAP-configured environment, cron relies on the
    setpcred() library function. The cron daemon can fail
    upon error from setpcred(). The error message generated
    is sent in an email from cron and looks like this:

    Subject: Cron Job Failure

      : (OMITTED)

    Output from from cron as follows:
    Cron: Cannot set the process credentials for user \
    <login-id>

Problem summary

  • Cron can fail in an LDAP configured Environment. This problem
    occurs only when LDAP client cache is enabled and its about
    to expired. Also more than one operation is executed by the
    LDAP client daemon with multiple threads. This occurs on a
    race condition.

Problem conclusion

  • LDAP client cache is properly handled for getuserattr
    operation.
