APAR status

Error description

  • lsmksysb fails on some tape drives when block_size=0
    

Local fix

  • Set block_size=512 using the chdev command or use SMIT to
    alter the tape drive block size.
    

Problem summary

  • Symptoms on tape backup are:
    
    Creating tape boot image .................................
    Copying backup to tape.
    0512-008 mksysb: The /usr/bin/dd command failed with return
    code of 0. Backup canceled.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The solution for tape backup is to default to 512 bs
