Topology attribute shows no data on the Tivoli Enterprise Portal(TEP).

Troubleshooting


Problem

Topology attribute group gets timed out and does not return any data. This happens if total count of monitored entity/objects (Virtual Machine. ESX Server, Data stores etc.) exceeds the desired threshold of 1500.

Diagnosing The Problem

In the agent log,  we can see this type of log entry to confirm if the attribute group is getting timed out with error as :

Sample agent log file name : TESTE9V1_vm_Instance_kvmagent_5d5a78ac-02.log
HOSTNAME_vm_INSTANCE_NAME_kvmagent_*.log

Data collection wait condition wait failed with return code -1
Data collection timed out waiting for response from attribute group 'Topology' for request id
 

Resolving The Problem

This is a limitation of topology attribute group and it is recommended to not query it, if total count of objects in the environment is larger than the defined threshold.
