** Troubleshooting ** "The statement has been terminated. Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted..." errors when using Controller

Troubleshooting

Problem

User performs a task in Controller. An error appears.

Symptom

The error will vary slightly (depending on scenario), but will be similar to:

Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.

Cause

There are several known causes:
  • Scenario #1 -Defect (reference APAR PH12550) in the following versions of Controller:
    • Controller 10.4.0 RTM (10.4.0.103)
    • Controller 10.4.0 IF1 (10.4.0.105)
For more details, see separate IBM Technote #0883764.
  • Scenario #2 - Invalid data inside the database table "sactrlinfo"
    • For more details, see separate IBM Technote #0883764.
  • Scenario #3 - Customer had 2 separate Controller application servers, where one had an expired/incorrect password (for the Windows domain user configured to run its Controller services).
    • For more details, see separate IBM Technote #1347429.

Resolving The Problem

Scenario #1
If using Controller 10.4.0 RTM or IF1, upgrade to Controller 10.4.0 IF2 (10.4.0.107) or a later version of Controller 10.4.0.
  • For more details, see separate IBM Technote #0883764.
Scenario #2
Clean the database table "sactrlinfo"
  • TIP: The easiest method is to perform a database optimise.
  • For more details, see separate IBM Technote #1364766.

Scenario #3 (Rare)
Enter the correct password for the relevant Windows user, on the 'bad' Controller application server.
  • For more details, see separate IBM Technote #1347429.
