Abstract

IBM Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel no longer requires IBM Cognos Performance Management Hub (PMHub) to access the TM1 Server or TM1 Admin Server.

Requirements

To use Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel without Performance Management Hub, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel version 2.0.41 or newer,
  • Planning Analytics version 2.0.7 IF 3 or newer. Planning Analytics version 2.0.7 IF 3 can be requested via IBM Support (https://www.ibm.com/mysupport/).

Checking your datasource type

Before you can use Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel without Performance Management Hub, you need to ensure that the datasource type of your IBM connections is set to "TM1OData". This datasource type can be connected to by Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel and be used without the use of Performance Management Hub.
 
  1. Open Microsoft Excel.
  2. Click the IBM Planning Analytics tab.
  3. Click Options.
  4. Click the IBM tab.
  5. Under Datasource type, check to see if the type is "TM1OData".

Existing connections to Planning Analytics

If you have existing connections to Planning Analytics, prior to upgrading to Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel version 2.0.41 (or newer) or Planning Analytics 2.0.7 IF 3(or newer), your connection datasource type may still be displayed as "Planning Analytics" and use the Performance Management Hub. You will need to delete and re-add these connections to use Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel without Performance Management Hub and for the datasource type to be displayed as "TM1OData".

Adding new connections

  1. Click Options.
  2. Click the IBM tab.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Under Datasource type, select IBM Planning Analytics.
  5. Enter the connection URL.
  6. Enter a friendly name.
  7. Click Test connection, to ensure that the connection is live.
  8. Click Save.
If you have Planning Analytics version 2.0.7 (or newer) and Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel version 2.0.41 (or newer), any new Planning Analytics connections are set to the "TM1OData" datasource type.

Using Planning Analytics version 2.0.6 or older

If you are using Planning Analytics version 2.0.6 or older, Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel will continue to use Performance Management Hub to access the TM1 Server or TM1 Admin Server.
If you are using Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel version 2.0.41 with Planning Analytics 2.0.6 (or older), any newly added datasource connections will initially be set to, or displayed as type "TM1OData". You may see a prompt during the first use to reconnect to your datasource connection for an automatic adjustment.
