Problem
Planning Analytics Turbo Integrator processes utilizing Microsoft SQL Server as a data source fail with "Unable to open connection to database"
Symptom
The TI Process does not run, the following error is thrown: "Unable to open connection to database"
Cause
Incompatible secure communication protocols after Windows updates (KB4467697) to enforce TLS 1.2 for all ODBC connections.
Resolving The Problem
To resolve this problem, one or both of the steps below may be required:
- Any ODBC connections created using the generic "SQL Server" (version 6) driver connection, must be replaced with the "ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server" (or higher)
- The server hosting Microsoft SQL Server must be patched per the following Microsoft Support guide: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3135244/tls-1-2-support-for-microsoft-sql-server
Please note that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is not a supported data source from Planning Analytics. If you have questions regarding Microsoft SQL Server 2005 support, please reach out to Support to discuss directly.
