Granting Notes Access to System Accessibility feature Causes Machine to Hang
After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.14 (Mojave), IBM Notes users are asked to provide access to documents and data in "System Events".
"IBM Notes want access to control "System Events". Allowing control from System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility will provide access to documents and data in "System Events", and to perform actions within that app."
Choosing to allow access adds "IBM Notes" to the Accessibility list (System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility) and the user will start to notice significant delay within the operating system. The system will randomly freeze then will respond back after some time.
By default, Notes client's accessibility is disabled, however, on some machines, the system would prompt users with:
"IBM Notes would like to control this computer using accessibility features. Grant access to this application in Security & Privacy preferences, located in System Preferences."
- The system will freeze when clicking on the IBM Notes icon in Dock to launch Notes which is easily noticeable because the icon stops moving instead of the usual bounce animation
- The problem also occurs even when Notes is launched in Basic mode
Resolving The Problem
As per discussion with the Apple support, it was found that the issue is with Mac OS X and the fix should come from them.
Customers who are looking for a resolution for this issue are advised to contact Apple support.
A temporary workaround is to choose "Don't Allow" when prompted "IBM Notes want access to control "System Events"" or to choose "OK", then uncheck "IBM Notes" to disable access via System Preferences (Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility)
