Possible steps to improve Dashboard performance in Cognos Analytics

How To

Summary

This document addresses the issue where dashboard visualizations load very slowly in Cognos Analytics. This document includes a list of settings to adjust that can help improve dashboard performance. Performance issues are present in all browsers.

Steps

The following are possible solutions to improve dashboard performance.
Increase JVM heap size for query service:
  1. Go to the Cognos Portal.
  2. Click Manage > Admin console > System > click server then dispatcher to display the services
  3. Select Set properties for the QueryService > Settings > category Tuning

  4. Double or triple the:

    • Initial JVM heap size for the query service (MB) (Requires QueryService restart)

    • JVM heap size limit for the query service (MB) (Requires QueryService restart)

Increase refresh time on Visualizations

  1. Clicking the visualizations
  2. Go to Properties-> Refresh Automatically.
  3. Check the box and try increasing the value and see whether this helps with performance.
Set some of the Audit logging levels to minimal
The following logging services can be set to minimal if not explicitly needed. This can help improve the performance.
  1. Agent
  2. Annotation
  3. Human Task
  4. Content Manager Cache Service
  5. Dispatcher
  6. Native query for batch report service
  7. Interactive discovery visualization service
  8. Metadata service
The rest of the levels must be set to basic. Apply changes to all dispatchers.
