Summary
In the Assignment Manager you can use the Modify Availability function to add (overtime) or subtract (time off) to the hours available for assignment for each Labor each day. Normally this is straightforward, if you have a shift from 8am to 4pm and want to add two hours you would add them to the end of the day in question from 4pm to 6pm. That doesn't work if the Shift includes midnight, for example 11pm to 7am. For that scenario, please see the procedure below.
Objective
To add hours on to the end of a shift that starts before midnight and ends after midnight using the standard Modify Availability function available in Assignment Manager.
In the example below, we see that Calms has 10 hours of work starting at 11pm on 8/22/18 and ending on 9am 8/23/18, with the 2 Extra Hours added on the morning of 8/23/18.
Steps
A design decision was made when Assignment Manager was first created that you have to modify the day the shift starts (which as we see is not always the actual day the hours will apply to in this special case where the shift wraps around midnight), not the day you want to add the hours to.
To make it work so that you have the 2 more hours available for assignment on 8/23, add them on to the shift starting on 8/22 from 7am to 9am. It is working this way as 8/22 is the start of the 11pm to 7am shift. Then click on Refresh Labor List to see the hours available change from 8 to 10 on 8/23.
The good news is that in Graphical Assignment, which is much newer and modern code, it works the way one would expect it to work. Extra Hours added on 9/3 from 7am to 11am for a shift that started at 11pm on 9/2 do get added at the end of the shift that started on 9/2 and Graphical Assignment schedules work started on 9/2 at 11pm into those Extra Hours if the assignment is more than 8 hours.
