    *                 Management task,V2R1.                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: z/OSMF Software Management V2R1 has     *
    *                      been modified to support Non-SMP/E      *
    * Managed Software Instances and *
    * Creating and Deploying Portable *
    *                      Software Instances.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The z/OSMF Software Management task has been enhanced
    as follows:
    1. Support Non-SMP/E Managed Software Instances
A software instance is a collection of data sets containing
installed software, and other data sets that may be associated
with that installed software. Formerly the software was
required to be SMP/E managed, which means the collection of
data sets contains, and is described by, one or more SMP/E
target and distribution zone pairs, defined by a single global
    zone.
This enhancement provides the capability to define, manage,
and deploy software instances that do NOT contain any SMP/E
managed software. This means software instances are no longer
required to identify an SMP/E global zone CSI to describe the
installed software. Therefore, the z/OSMF Software Management
task can now be used to manage and deploy SMP/E installed and
managed software in addition to non-SMP/E installed and
    managed software.

    2. Create and Deploy Portable Software Instances
A software instance is a loose collection of native data sets
on a z/OS system containing installed software. This
enhancement provides a new Export action that creates a
portable image of a software instance, including the SMPCSI
data sets and all associated SMP/E managed target and
distribution libraries if the installed software is SMP/E
managed, non-SMP/E managed data sets, and meta-data required
to describe the entire software instance. The portable image
is called a Portable Software Instance, and the Software
Management task provides the capability to define, manage, and
deploy portable software instances in addition to native
    software instances.
Portable software instances can be used to broadcast a single
portable image of a software instance to several locations, or
by a software vendor to distribute manufactured software
instances, which can then be installed to create a native
software instance using the z/OSMF Software Management
    deployment function.

3.Browser support for Mozilla Firefox ESR 45 and Microsoft
    Internet Explorer 11.

    ------------- DOCUMENTS UPDATES -----------------------------
The following documentation will be updated.
    --------------------------------------------------------------
     - IBM z/OS Management Facility Configuration Guide,
     - SA38-0657-08, Version 2 Release 1.
    --------------------------------------------------------------
Available for download by December 30, 2016:

    --------------------------------------------------------------
The z/OS Management Facility Configuration Guide contains a
topic titled "Creating access controls for the Software
Management task". This topic describes how to authorize users
to actions and objects within Software Management. Since APAR
PI67819 is removing the managed list of global zones, and
therefore removing all authorization checking for globalzone
objects, the subtopic "Authorizing users to global zones" is
being removed in its entirety. In addition, a new subtopic
"Authorizing users to portable software instances" is being
added. Information for this new topic is as follows:
Authorizing users to portable software instances.

A portable software instance is a portable image of a software
instance, including the SMPCSI data sets and all associated
SMP/E managed target and distribution libraries
if the installed software is SMP/E managed, non-SMP/E
managed data sets, and meta-data required to describe the
    entire software instance.
To control access to a specific portable software instance,
define a security manager product profile for the resource.
The SAF resource name for a portable software instance
    object has the following format:
    <safPrefix>.ZOSMF.SOFTWARE_DEPLOYMENT.DAT.PSWI.<category>.
    <systemName>.<portableSwiName>
    where:
    - PSWI - indicates that the object associated with this
SAF resource is a portable software instance
category - is the name of the category assigned to the
portable software instance. If multiple categories are
assigned, a separate SAF resource name is created for
each category. If no category is assigned, the category
value is NOCATEGORY. To perform an action, users must
have the access authority required for that action for
all the SAF resource names associated with the portable
    software instance.
    - systemName - is the nickname of the z/OSMF host system
that has access to the UNIX directory where the portable
software instance resides. The system is defined in the
    z/OSMF Systems task.
    - portableSwiName - is the name of the portable software
    instance.
The following lists the access authority levels used to
control access to portable software instance objects and the
actions that are permitted for each authority. The Software
Management task does not perform authorization checks to
determine which portable software instances to display in a
list or table; therefore, all portable software instances
will be displayed regardless of access authority.
    -------------------------------------------
    Access Authority Actions Allowed
    ---------------- ---------------
READ - View the properties of a portable softwar
                          instance
                        -Deploy the portable software instance
                         during a deployment
UPDATE -In addition to the actions specified for
the READ access, users can perform the
                         following actions:
                        - Modify the portable software instance
properties that are not used to create
the SAF resource name for the portable
                          software instance.
CONTROL - In addition to the actions specified for
the READ and UPDATE access, users can
                          perform the following actions:
                        - Create new portable software instances
                          explicitly using the Add action.
                        - Modify the portable software instance
properties that are used to create the
SAF resource name for the portable
                          software instance and control access
                          to the portable software instance.
                        - Remove the portable software instance.
