  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • Enable PRF 2.2 to use PRF 2.1 Checkpoint Data Sets (CTA, CTB,
    CTX). This will be needed for conversion between releases when
    a fallback or fall-forward is required.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. During migration from PRF V2R1 to *
    *                      V2R2, installations may require the     *
    * ability to restart abended IMS Batch *
    *                      and/or BMP Jobs such that V2R2 can      *
    * use V2R1 created checkpoint data sets *
    * (CTA, CTB, CTX) for restart. *
    * 2. In the event that PRF V2R2 fails to *
    * function as expected, installations *
    * may require the ability to fallback to *
    * PRF V2R1. This includes the ability *
    *                      for V2R1 to use PRF V2R2 created        *
    * checkpoint data sets (CTA, CTB, CTX) *
    *                      for restart.                            *

    * this enhancement is to be employed at your *
    * installation. Advanced planning and testing *
    *                 are strongly recommended.                    *

    1. An IMS Batch or BMP job has abended in a PRF V2R1
    environment. The installation requires that the abended job
    be restarted in a V2R2 environment. This is potentially useful
    during migration from V2R1 to V2R2.
    2. An IMS Batch or BMP job has abended in a PRF V2R2
    environment where V2R2 failed to operate successfully. The
    installation requires that the abended job be restarted in a
    V2R1 environment. This is potentiall useful during early
    V2R2 deployment.

Comments

  • 1. In V2R1 APAR PI48005, PRF V2R1 is changed such that it places
    its version and release in the X'20' records of its CTA/CTB data
    sets. This allows V2R2 to recognize their origin, effect an
    internal format change, and make use of the V2R1 created
    CTA/CTB data sets for IMS Batch and/or BMP job restart.
    2. In this APAR, PRF V2R2 is changed such it places its version
    and release in the X'20' records of its CTA/CTB data sets. This
    allows V2R1 to recognize their origin, effect an internal
    format change, and make use of the V2R2 created CTA/CTB data
    sets for IMS Batch and/or BMP job restart.
    3. If one or the other, or both APARs are not installed, there
    is no negative effect.
    4. There are no changes required to the CTX dataset because
    V2R1 and V2R2 CTX datasets are of the same format and
    completely interchangeable.
