Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of HBB7790 and above supported * * releases using System Logger Service * * IXGBRWSE * * * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: System logger logstream browse level * * latch is held exclusively for each * * IXGBRWSE request for a logstream, * * which can cause interference/impediment * * between browse requestors on the same * * system when reading log data from the * * same logstream. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** IN SUPPORT OF NEW FUNCTION The logger browse (IXGBRWSE) processing employs an exclusive latch for each browse request for a given logstream. This system scope latching means only one browse request for the logstream will be processed at a time. This singular sequential processing can cause interference between browse requestors and becomes an impediment when multiple, concurrent browsers from the same system are reading log data from the same logstream. The system logger browse (IXGBRWSE) service should be enhanced to allow concurrent log data browses (reads) on the same system to the logstream.
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
System logger has been enhanced to support concurrent logstream browse requests on the same system. See the Enhancement section for details. Activation of this enhancement on each system requires an IPL. Additional Searchable keywords: SYSPLEXDS ENHANCEMENT INFO FOR APAR OA48933 This PTF provides an enhancement to the system logger browse (IXGBRWSE) service to allow multiple, concurrent log data browses (reads) on the same system for the same logstream. The intent of the logstream browse latching changes included in this enhancement is to allow parallelism/concurrency between separate browse sessions, but it will also continue to protect against concurrent service use of the same browse session. This PTF may be applied and activated on one system at a time in the sysplex. Systems with and without the PTF activated can coexist in the same sysplex.
