Error description
When DFSMShsm RECOVER dsname NEWNAME FROMDUMP command restored a VSAM data set from a dump copy, the restored data set would not be cataloged if the data set does not already exist on the level 0 volume. NEW FUNCTION: Enhance RECOVER dsname NEWNAME FROMDUMP command to catalog a single-volume VSAM data set restored by DFSMSdss from a dump copy.

In this case, the Access Method Services DEFINE RECATALOG command must be used to recatalog the restored data set. . DFSMShsm RECOVER dsname NEWNAME FROMDUMP command has been enhanced to catalog the single-volume VSAM data set restored by DFSMSdss from a dump copy.

Comments
Apply the PTF for this APAR and restart DFSMShsm to use the new function. When the PTF is installed, the new function is disabled by default. To enable this function, issue the following DFSMShsm command: PATCH .MCVT.+5D4 BITS(....1...) To disable the new function, issue the following DFSMShsm command: PATCH .MCVT.+5D4 BITS(....0...) . Additional problems fixed: Problem symptoms: MSGARC1157I REAS18 RECOVER with NEWNAME of a VSAM KSDS failed with ARC1157I REAS18 when the following conditions are met: 1. The Old data set name is not in the catalog at time of RECOVER. 2. The old data set had candidate volumes in the catalog. 3. The target data set would be cataloged in the same catalog as the old data set. In the case when the NEWNAME target data set would be cataloged in a different catalog, RECOVER would process the data set successfully. . DFSMShsm has been modified to allow RECOVER with NEWNAME of a VSAM KSDS with candidate volumes from a logical backup copy. The PATCH described above does not affect this additonal fix. . ++HOLD(ENHANCEMENT) New Function: This PTF provides enhancement to the DFSMShsm RECOVER dsname NEWNAME FROMDUMP command to catalog the single-volume VSAM target data set after it has been restored by DFSMSdss from a dump copy. . Exploitation of this new function requires this PTF and issuing the following DFSMShsm command to enable the new function: PATCH .MCVT.+5D4 BITS(....1...) . ++HOLD(ACTION) To request that DFSMShsm catalog the single-volume VSAM data set after it has been restored to the new target data set name from a dump copy, issue the following DFSMShsm command: PATCH .MCVT.+5D4 BITS(....1...) . If an installation later decides that it wants to disable this function, issue the following DFSMShsm command: PATCH .MCVT.+5D4 BITS(....0...) . ++HOLD(DOC) The following publication (DOC) updates will be reflected in a future revision. . o z/OS DFSMShsm Storage Administration (V2R2 SC23-6871-03) - Chapter 6 Availability management of SMS-managed storage Add the following text to the end of section 'Restoring a VSAM data set from a dump copy': If you specify NEWNAME and the NEWNAME data set is not cataloged when the original data set is cataloged, DFSMShsm invokes DFSMSdss to restore the dump copy of the data set passing the NEWNAME. DFSMShsm then attempts to catalog the restored new target data set name when it is a single-volume data set. In the case when it is part of a multi-volume data set, use the Access Method Services DEFINE RECATALOG command to catalog the data set. . o z/OS DFSMShsm Diagnosis (V2R2 GC52-1387-01) - Chapter 8 Diagnosing from return codes and reason codes Update the 'Entries That Pass Error Codes to ARCERP' with the following new module Error Codes: ARCGDSN 52 Debug GETMAIN error. 100 Debug Catalog search interface was not able to find the data set in the catalog. 1nn Debug Catalog search interface error.
