Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: OAM Tape Library Support * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Enhancements to limit the number of * * I/O calls to the library D/TVTS * * D/TPTP D/T3494 D/T3584 D/T3957 * * during return to scratch processing. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Issue the new operator command as * * appropriate for your environment. * **************************************************************** A new keyword has been added to the LIBRARY DISABLE operator command: . LIBRARY DISABLE,CATCOUNT . The new keyword for the LIBRARY DISABLE command can be used to disable the category count call to the library during return to scratch processing. Today this call is made during return to scratch processing (private to scratch transitions) for each volume being returned to scratch. With this call disabled, the category count call (and scratch threshold processing) is still done during job procesing (scratch to private transitions). It is only the private to scratch transitions where the I/O to obtain the category count is disabled. With this I/O call disabled the category count (and scratch threshold processing) is still obtained every ten minutes by a monitoring task within OAM. Disabling the category count call during return to scratch processing could help the overall time that it takes to return volumes to scratch since there is one less I/O call being made to the library for each volume. . To re-enable the category count call for volumes being returned to scratch, issue the following operator command: . LIBRARY RESET,CATCOUNT . If needed and as appropriate for your environment, consider issuing the LIBRARY DISABLE,CATCOUNT operator command as part of the IPL process. . New/Changed Messages: --------------------- CBR1952I - New message. CBR1952I Category count call during change use attribute processing for scratch has been {disabled | reset}. . Explanation: The operator has entered one of the following commands: . LIBRARY DISABLE,CATCOUNT LIBRARY RESET,CATCOUNT . Category count calls to tape libraries during return to scratch processing have been disabled or reset. The category count (and scratch threshold processing) is still obtained every ten minutes by a monitoring task within OAM as well as during job processing (scratch to private transitions). . System Action: When disabled, category count calls are no longer made when volumes are transitioned from private to scratch. To enable category count calls during return to scratch processing, issue a LIBRARY RESET,CATCOUNT command. . This setting will not be automatically reset by stopping and restarting the OAM address space, or during OAM address space restart due to an SCDS activation. . Source: Object Access Method (OAM) . Routing Code: 2 . Descriptor Code: 5
