Mounting NFS filesystem on PureData for Analytics systems.

Question & Answer

Question

What mount options should be used for NFS filesystems that will be attached to the PureData for Analytics hosts?

Answer

Mounting NFS with default options may lead to system crashes.

NFS should be mounted using "soft" and "intr" options, hard and nonintr may lead to situations, where inaccessible share leads to host hang when anything attempts to write to it which in turn lead to database failovers and reboots of host.

During our internal testing efforts, we found out that 'noac' made the host immune to the reboot issue but using this option will have impact on performance.
