"Understanding fluctuations in customer orders is crucial to keeping costs down. By learning from the past to predict future order volume, we are much better prepared to keep inventory levels low without sacrificing just-in-time delivery for customers." - Antonio Conte, EIS Manager at Home Connexion

Home Connexion S.r.l. is a company in Figino Serenza (Como), Italy, that focuses on marketing and sales, product design and distribution of window dressings for its parent company, Pacific International Group. It was acquired along with two other companies in 2007 by a Chinese businessman in the Netherlands. The three companies — Home Connexion, L’Atelier du Jour and Pacific Hogar—were once part of Newell Rubbermaid. They now work together under the Pacific International Group umbrella, each focusing on different operational traits. Home Connexion operates a network of small stores while managing large-scale distribution of window fittings, including systems for overlapping, sash and panel curtains; Venetian blinds and curtain rails. The group’s brands include Kirsch, Swish, DIY and Caroline.
Home Connexion S.r.l. manages central information systems for its parent and sister companies. The group was struggling to reconcile data, which came from heterogeneous sources scattered across three companies. Without a unified view of business performance, Home Connexion S.r.l. found it difficult to make critical decisions about everything from sales and service to production volume and inventory. It needed a powerful reporting and analysis platform to aggregate and standardize data.
What Makes It Smarter
For fabrication and assembly companies, the goal is to fulfill customer orders as quickly as possible while minimizing the amount of supplies and inventory in warehouses. It’s a constant tug of war between revenue opportunities and costs. Home Connexion S.r.l., specializing in window coverings, uses sophisticated analytics and scenario planning to strike just the right balance in the face of fluctuating demand. By running historical analysis on customer orders and examining the numbers by region, by store, by product and by customer, the company gains unprecedented visibility into future order volumes, so they can keep supply and inventory levels in check — and keep costs down. The solution also makes it easy for Home Connexion S.r.l. to spot its most profitable customers by calculating net sales values based on share of advertising dollars spent, returned goods, merchandising costs and discounts. This insight allows the company to focus sales efforts on its best bets — and drive revenue. Plus, the solution provides scenario planning capabilities, helping Home Connexion S.r.l. understand the downstream impact of its decisions under changing business conditions.
