CAS Rome was born in April 2005, as a joint initiative of IGS and Public Sector, with the coordination of University Relations. CAS Rome is located at the main Rome IBM site, which also hosts the Rome Tivoli Lab and the Italian e-Government Center .
CAS Rome is a National reference center for methodologies and technologies of Services and Data Integration. Within CAS Rome, a selected number of Academic partners are cooperating with IBM Italia in developing pilots and applied research projects, with a particular focus on applications for the Public Sector.
Currently, the main objectives of the CAS Rome are related to the Public Connectivity System (SPC): the vision of a Nation-wide Web Service e-Government Infrastructure that will allow Systems to cooperate in a simpler way and Citizens to benefit of better Public Services. By CAS Rome, IBM Italia aims at making innovative proposals for SPC, through the cooperation with the best people in Italian Universities. IBM Italia thinks that researches in this field could be beneficial for developing concrete experiences in strategic areas and provide inputs to build up Service Sciences.
CAS Rome is particularly concerned with Semantic Technologies and Ontology Engineering, which are recognized as strategic topics for future developments of distributed systems, Web Service infrastructures, and the Web. These themes will be developed in collaboration with selected Italian Universities and Research Centers that already have a solid reputation and a Word-Wide visibility in these fields.
CAS Rome hosts people (Professors, post-graduate researchers, and Ph.D students) coming from Universities, while internal forces are allocated based on funded projects. CAS is given an annual budget for post-graduate stages, and applies for National and European research funding programs.
