Time Description
8:30am – 9:00am Registration & Continental Breakfast
9:00am – 9:10am Introduction and Welcome
9:10am – 10:25am Keynote: Architecting SOA Solutions in Depth - Claus Jensen
In the past decade, SOA principles have been the foundation for the evolution of transactional systems to e-business and end-to-end business process integration. In the next decade, the same SOA principles will be at the core of a new era of business engagements that transact at internet scale across locations, devices, people, processes and information. This keynote will focus on these design principles and how to architect SOA solutions to drive business success. This talk will also offer an in depth discussion on how to make your architecture actionable and effective including governance issues, portfolio management, and the relationship to the Enterprise Architecture.
10:25am – 10:40am Break
10:40am – 11:40am SOA Design Principles and Business Integration
On a Smarter Planet, complexity, change, and uncertainty abound. Businesses must manage rising customer expectations, new competitors around the globe, and the speed of technological change. Forward-thinking organizations can embrace complexity by architecting for agility throughout their core business functions. By bringing together powerful, processes, integration, and application infrastructure capabilities in an SOA, organizations can improve operational dexterity and respond rapidly to change. However, agility without performance and integrity is a fragile proposition. Organizations must ensure that interactions throughout their extended enterprise are fast, consistent, and controlled. Learn how to take your SOA to the next level – delivering agility, and process integrity, and putting you on a bath to true business optimization.
11:40am – 12:40pm SOA Design Principles and Development - Roger Snook
Developing services is more than a coding exercise. Identifying the most valuable services, deciding on the right level of granularity, understanding the context and dependencies across multiple solution, these are all parts of the IBM method for service development. This in-depth discussion of developing SOA will cover service oriented modeling, design patterns and practices to ensure the proper flexibility and quality of the end result, and programming models such as SCA and SDO. It will cover both methodology and tools necessary for the entire services lifecycle and development process.
12:40pm – 1:40pm Lunch
1:40pm – 2:25pm SOA Design Principles and Cloud - Claus Jensen
SOA is not about technology per se, yet SOA must be instantiated through technology. Why does the infrastructure matter from a business perspective? What non-functional characteristics are important? How can your infrastructure deliver high RAS? How are mixed workload solutions handled? How can variability in workload demand be addressed? This talk will cover key considerations for architecting your SOA infrastructure including how to utilize Cloud technology. It will also cover key considerations for operations and management.
2:25pm - 3:10pm SOA Design Principles and Mobile - Craig Lanzen
New business demands are driving organizations to adopt mobile application delivery platforms, and to accelerate application and service delivery across the enterprise. The advent of powerful hand-held devices has opened up new opportunities to design and build "applications" instead of "websites". In this session, you’ll learn how to leverage the good design principles of SOA like loose-coupling and service granularity to access distributed services across a myriad of remote servers. The session will also tackle issues such as selecting the right technology, delivery mechanisms, network latency, security and versioning.
3:10pm – 3:25pm Break
3:25pm - 4:10pm SOA Design Principles and Big Data - Claus Jensen
Processes, services and information assets are all interrelated, and need to be architected in the context of a business solution. This session tells the story of how SOA and Big Data belong together and have inherent natural synergies. Together, SOA and Big Data enable the delivery of trusted information to business services via Master Data Services, Trusted Information Delivery, Business Performance Management & Analytics, and content-centric processes.
4:10pm – 4:40pm Panel Discussion & Closing
