IBM Mobile Foundation, Consumer edition V5.0
IBM Mobile Foundation, Consumer edition V5.0 provides the essential elements needed for mobile development, deployment, and management in primarily a Business-to-Consumer (B2C) deployment model. It consists of:
IBM Worklight V5.0 provides four main capabilities:
IBM Worklight V5.0 simplifies the development of mobile web, hybrid, and native applications across multiple mobile platforms, including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone. It provides visual development capabilities and source code enhancements to help developers accelerate development, test, and delivery of mobile applications. IBM Worklight V5.0 includes an optimization framework to enable the delivery of a rich user experience that adheres to the unique capabilities and styling requirements of multiple mobile target environments. In the development process, IBM Worklight V5.0 maximizes the sharing of the codebase among environments, helping to reduce costs of development, time-to-market, and ongoing management efforts.
The Server is a mobile-optimized middleware component that facilitates connectivity between the mobile applications and the enterprise back-end. The Server can deliver back-end data in a mobile-friendly format (from both communication and developer perspectives), reducing requests over the mobile network, and allowing the implementation of more complex logic on the server. Another capability of the Server as mobile middleware is the uniform architecture of push notifications that allows the enterprise to initiate engagement with the application users, regardless of whether the application is running or not.
Device Runtime components are a set of developer libraries that are compiled into the mobile applications and are designed to complement server-side function. Device Runtime components also provide on-device encrypted storage facilities for storing sensitive data on the device and to collect diagnostics and usage data for reporting and analytics.
With the Console, administrators can remotely disable applications based on predetermined rules of application version and mobile device, directing users to a new version of the application, if necessary. They can also deploy new versions of an application's web code and automatically push them to users (depending on the terms and conditions provided by the mobile device vendor). Administrators can also monitor the push notification framework and enable or disable notifications to specific applications. Furthermore, administrators can access reports describing application adoption and usage, or integrate with the enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) system to perform custom analytics on mobile usage data.
IBM Mobile Foundation and IBM Worklight are capable as of June 15, 2012, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.
IBM Worklight V5.0 is a core product within the overall IBM mobile strategy and part of the IBM Mobile Foundation family of products. Worklight offers organizations a wide set of services aimed at helping them develop and deploy rich, cross-platform mobile applications that connect mobile employees and customers to enterprise back-end systems and cloud-based services.
Since IBM Worklight V5.0 is based on open standards rather than proprietary scripting languages, automatic compilers, and code translators, it allows businesses to protect their mobile investment and avoid lock-in. The product helps reduce development costs and time-to-market by leveraging the organization's existing web skills and maximizing the reusability of the codebase across different environments.
IBM Worklight, together with the additional products from IBM's portfolio described below, enables companies to address the entire lifecycle of their mobile initiative.
Together with other IBM integration offerings, such as WebSphere Cast Iron Hypervisor Edition and WebSphere DataPower® Appliance, WebSphere Message Broker, and WebSphere MQ, IBM Worklight V5.0 provides comprehensive integration to back-end systems and cloud-based services. For additional information on WebSphere Cast Iron Hypervisor Edition V6.1, refer to Software Announcement 211-327, dated August 23, 2011.
IBM Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices, along with IBM Worklight V5.0, allows enterprises to deliver a solution that covers both mobile application development and Mobile Device Management (MDM). For additional information on IBM Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices, refer to Software Announcement 212-065, dated March 06, 2012.
In addition, IBM Lifecycle Management offerings such as Rational Team Concert, Rational® Quality Manager, and Rational Requirements Composer help deliver improved team collaboration and reduced development time through automated builds of multiple mobile device operating systems, test plan optimization, project planning, and development intelligence.
IBM WebSphere Application Server Web 2.0 and Mobile Toolkit (previously known as the WebSphere Application Server Web 2.0 and Mobile Feature Pack) enables WebSphere customers to develop mobile web applications, while IBM Worklight V5.0 allows for the development of web, hybrid, and native applications. Applications built with WebSphere Application Server Web 2.0 and Mobile Toolkit can easily move up to IBM Worklight V5.0 for application store presence, full mobile device access, and off-line capabilities.

|Statement of good security practices|
IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered destroyed or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
