ZP10-0520 IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture for z/OS , V6.5 delivers real-time data integration

PDF versionPDF

At a glance

InfoSphere™ Change Data Capture for z/OS, V6.5 can help you:

  • Load real-time information into a data warehouse or operational data store
  • Eliminate the batch window by providing continuous extract, transform, and load of data into target systems
  • Integrate real-time inventory and sales information with other commercial sites
  • Integrate product and customer data across multiple branches, outlets, and offices
  • Keep production systems running 24 x 7 for worldwide operations

Overview

IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture for z/OS, V6.5 supports a variety of enterprise architectures and replication configurations, including unidirectional, bidirectional, cascading, and data distribution environments. Key features include:

  • One-to-one: Source and target have a similar structure.
  • Live audit: An audit trail of source to target.
  • Adaptive apply: Used when the source and target are currently not synchronized and you want to apply source data quickly to the target.
  • Summarization: Used to accumulate or subtract numerical values on the target.
  • One-to-one consolidation: Used to merge data scattered across different tables into a single row.
  • One-to-many consolidation: Used to apply a source lookup table change to all target rows affected by the change.
  • Conflict detection: Uses standard or customized methods to resolve conflicts to ensure data integrity.
  • Ability to integrate high volumes of data with minimal impact to the production system.
  • Support for continuous extract, transform, and load (ETL) functionality across systems. Changes are captured as they occur, allowing up-to-the-minute data to flow between systems to support real-time reporting, business intelligence, and synchronization of applications.

Custom business logic can be integrated at several points within the replication process. Transformations, custom expressions, and custom business logic add to the flexibility of InfoSphere Change Data Capture for z/OS, enabling you to customize your data integration flow and configure your replication environment. The result can help lower your total cost of ownership.

IBM InfoSphere Change Data Capture for z/OS uses a robust log data cache that enables the DB2® logs to be accessed only once under normal operations, regardless of the number of integration processes running concurrently. This results in reduced demand on DB2 and the DB2 logs.

Monitoring is provided through the InfoSphere Change Data Capture Management Console. Throughput and latency statistics provide visibility into replication processes for monitoring and troubleshooting. Graphs are displayed for a visual representation of throughput and latency, enabling a quicker assessment of the health and status of the environment. A replication diagram displays the relationships between data stores in the replication environment, which can assist with monitoring as well as problem detection and diagnosis. As a result, the state of the replication environment is readily available, and the time and effort required to troubleshoot problems can be reduced.

InfoSphere Change Data Capture for z/OS enables deployment using a graphical user interface.

ZP10-0530 The IBM Rational Programming Patterns for System z V8 extension helps VisualAge Pacbase manage a smooth transition to a modern and strategic integrated development environment

PDF versionPDF

Overview

The new IBM Rational Programming Patterns for System z extension, part of the IBM Rational Developer for System z family of products, opens the doors of the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform to Pacbase developers. Using a modern, comprehensive and collaborative IDE that extends IBM Rational Developer for System z and IBM Rational Team Concert, IBM Rational Programming Patterns for System z V8 allows Pacbase developers to maintain their high level of individual productivity, while unifying their development processes and tools with System z and Java™ developers.

IBM Rational Programming Patterns for System z modernizes the Pacbase Model Driven Development (MDD) approach. It extends IBM Rational Developer for System z with new Pacbase compatible models for Data, Texts, Macro-Structures, Batch and Transactional applications with their editors and generators, targeting System z.

IBM Rational Programming Patterns for System z V8 uses IBM Rational Team Concert to share the same software configuration principles, change management, build tools, development process control, and collaborative features between System z, Java and Pacbase developers. This new environment has capabilities that surpass the current Pacbase features, thus improving team productivity and IT governance.

IBM Rational Programming Patterns for System z includes IBM Rational Team Concert integrations creating a central Jazz™ based repository for Pacbase development assets, thereby increasing the productivity of application maintenance with impact analysis and multi-criteria search services as well as classification aids for development assets. This Jazz-based repository is shared with native COBOL developers who use their own impact-analysis services based on their development paradigm.

IBM Rational Programming Patterns for System z offers a low-cost migration, minimizing the amount of regression test needed post-migration. This is achieved by generating COBOL code syntactically equivalent to the code generated by Pacbase, and by providing tools to automate and check the transfer of Pacbase assets in the new IDE.

ZP10-0398 IBM WebSphere Application Server offers new socket pricing and enhanced simple load balancing; IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition offers new socket pricing

PDF versionPDF

At a glance

  • WebSphere® Application Server and WebSphere Application Server Community Edition offer new socket-based pricing options that can flatten the cost burden in many configurations.
  • WebSphere Application Server V7.0
    • Expands simple web-server load-balancing and failover capability up to five servers
    • Provides new merge tool and documentation to help configure the failover scenarios

Overview

WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Application Server Community Edition introduce new socket-based pricing.

  • WebSphere Application Server now offers an option for socket-based pricing in addition to PVU1-based pricing. This allows you to select the pricing option that best supports your platform choices.
  • WebSphere Application Server Community Edition offers socket-based pricing for both Entry and Elite levels of support. For Community Edition, the new support options replace previous server-based pricing options.

These socket-based options more closely match your deployment and production configuration needs. Also, they provide better price/performance on newer multi-core platforms. All socket-based pricing is per Limited Use Socket2

Enhancements are also made to WebSphere Application Server V7.0 simple web-server (HTTP) load-balancing and failover capability. The WebSphere Application Server V7 license restriction of two servers is now expanded to five servers. A new merge tool and documentation streamlines the task of configuring the load-balancing capability by combining the plug-in configuration files of multiple stand-alone application server profiles into a single configuration file. Simple load-balancing distributes HTTP requests across multiple WebSphere Application Server instances. Simple load-balancing can also handle failover of the application state that is maintained in HTTP sessions.

Concurrent with this announcement, the number of servers to which a single IBM HTTP Server plug-in can route a request has been increased. Previously, a single IBM HTTP Server was restricted to routing requests to two servers. This limit is now expanded to twenty-five WebSphere Application Servers (V7.0).
