It can help you reduce the costs associated with managing and maintaining separate voice and data equipment and networks.

Key prerequisites
  • Ethernet and IP network
  • Local area network that is highly available and redundant
  • Network infrastructure that supports virtual LAN (VLAN) and quality of service (QoS)
  • Cable infrastructure of CAT-5 or better
  • Infrastructure availability of power for phone sets through port of entry (PoE), Midspan, or deskside facilities
  • Wireless LAN that supports QoS, enterprise-grade security, and fast handoffs between base stations

Note: If your network does not meet these requirements, IBM Networking Services can offer IBM Network Convergence Services to upgrade your network.

IBM Converged Communications Services — IP telephony is designed and delivered using IBM Global Services Method and consists of the following four phases:
