Description

Top rule

The Db2 12 for z/OS, QMF Enterprise Edition Advanced feature has been enhanced with the following new capabilities:

TSO Client helps deliver CPU savings

A new TSO Client gives users the ability to deliver CPU savings as work submitted from this new TSO interface is zIIP eligible. This is of significant importance as the zIIP eligibility can be extended to batch workloads, procedures, and ad hoc queries, which makes the new TSO interface an important way to minimize costs as workload increases.

The TSO Client offers usability and productivity features designed to help QMF users edit and administer QMF objects such as intuitive list filtering and simultaneous multiple object editing. It also offers the ability to seamlessly share objects created in the new client across the other QMF clients (TSO, web, workstation, and Vision) without the need for client-specific configuration or tuning.

Common centralized server connects the entire QMF ecosystem

QMF introduces a common centralized server to connect the entire QMF ecosystem, simplify installation and configuration, and help you leverage your data and queries. The QMF Server is written in Java™ and architected to exploit the advantages delivered by IBM Z for Java workloads.

The new TSO Client is referred to as the QMF Z Client and delivers significant productivity improvements to QMF TSO users, including major improvements for working with QMF objects and integration with the wider QMF ecosystem. A new, customizable home panel provides instant access to your favorite and recently used QMF objects and recent commands. When listing objects, you can quickly and easily filter and sort the list, add an object to your favorites, and filter to objects modified within a number of days, months, and so on, all interactively and while supporting screen sizes up to 98 x 160.

You can now have multiple QMF objects open and easily switch between them, including between multiple edit windows using the improved, built-in Query and Procedure Editor. Mouse support, along with right-click, context-sensitive menus and drop-down menus, helps both the experienced and novice user to complete tasks in less time. QMF Workstation and IBM WebSphere® objects previously limited to distributed platform users can now be used by your TSO users, enabling QMF objects to be shared across all UIs and the ability to build QMF objects once and use them anywhere.

Common QMF Server: Key benefits

  • The QMF Server runs on zIIP engines, making MSU savings and improved performance possible.
  • The server can be deployed on z/OS, Linux, UNIX®, and Windows. This gives QMF users the ability to individually choose the best platform deployment option for the QMF Server, QMF Clients, and QMF workloads.
  • Users can choose to put the QMF Server close to the data to reduce the load on the network and improve performance.
  • Multiple QMF Servers are supported to bring the execution closer to the data. For example, if you need to query data on Db2 on the Linux platform and data on IBM Db2 for z/OS, you could set up a QMF Server on the z/OS platform for the Db2 for z/OS queries and one on the Linux platform for Db2 queries. QMF will route the work to the QMF Server you chose, improving performance.
  • Direct database support to relational data sources using JDBC on IBM Z or distributed platforms. This is in addition to existing data source access using the QMF Data Service, which can access relational and nonrelational data sources.
  • One instance of the QMF Server can handle multiple user components: TSO, workstation, web, and Vision. This eliminates the need to set up servers for each of the specific QMF components.
  • Mainframe users can create, access, and reuse the newer QMF objects, such as Visual Queries and JavaScript™ procedures.
  • Simple and consistent setup for all users, both mainframe and distributed.
  • JavaScript is now supported for QMF procedures.
  • To experience the benefits of the new QMF Server, batch jobs need to be updated to run under the new QMF Server.

New QMF TSO user experience: Key benefits

  • Productivity and usability improvements for TSO users:
    • New home panel provides instant access to your favorite and recently used QMF objects and commands.
    • Major improvements for listing and editing your QMF objects.
    • Easily switch between open QMF objects and actions.
    • Mouse support with right-click, context-sensitive menus and drop-down menus.
  • Seamless integration with QMF Workstation and WebSphere and the broader QMF ecosystem.
  • Share QMF objects across all UIs: build it once, use it anywhere.
  • Do QMF tasks in less time, including tasks previously not possible.

The self-service BI capabilities of the QMF Vision component are enhanced with new automatic dashboarding, JSON support, and multitenancy.

QMF Vision key highlights:

  • Automatic dashboarding capabilities that are driven by analytics, which can be used as a starting point in discovery, analysis, and decision-making processes.
  • Expands platform support to Linux.
  • Dashboard publishing that can enable embedding in web pages.
  • Support for network relationship diagram/chart.
  • Support for annotations on dashboards.
  • Support for JSON format data sources.
  • Support for QMF-prompted queries.
  • Simplified adding of multiple data sources to a dashboard.

The Db2 for z/OS base is enhanced with the following new capabilities:

Improved disaster recovery with GDPS Active/Active support

GDPS Active/Active can be used for planned site switches and also for maintenance activities. This capability is currently available in the Db2 11 for z/OS service stream.

New analytics capabilities with IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator (IDAA)

New capabilities delivered in the service stream provide support for IDAA V6, target accelerator, HTAP for dynamic queries, IDAA catalog UTS migration, and HTAP data coherency.

Native RESTful support

Db2 REST unleashes your enterprise data and applications on Db2 for z/OS for the API economy, with more efficient and secure access to Db2 for z/OS data.

Mobile and cloud application developers can use consumable and scalable RESTful services by using any REST client. They can use these services to securely interact with business-critical data and transactions, without special Db2 for z/OS expertise.

The latest service update to the Db2 REST services support introduces the new BIND SERVICE and FREE SERVICE subcommands. Db2 database administrators (DBAs) can issue these DSN commands to create and drop user-defined REST services the same way as they use BIND PACKAGE and FREE PACKAGE for normal application package creation and deletion.

Db2 as a Service (Db2 aaS): RESTful APIs and automation improves developer self-service and DevOps results. Db2 REST services support is available in the DB2® 11 service stream.

Transparent Data Encryption support

Db2 for z/OS supports z/OS DFSMS data set encryption to encrypt DB2 data sets. Db2 supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol by using the z/OS Communications Server IP Application Transparent Transport.

zHyperlink support

zHyperlink support provides database synchronous read I/O exploitation and performance improvements.

In a well-tuned environment, this feature can improve average response latencies for database page reads in online transactions.

New system parameters to enable the feature are introduced, along with instrumentation to estimate the potential benefit of using zHyperLink read support and instrumentation to report the results of zHyperLink requests.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only through CBPDO and ServerPac. These customized offerings are offered for internet delivery from Shopz. Internet delivery reduces software delivery time and allows you to install software without the need to handle tapes. For more details on internet delivery, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

You choose the delivery method when you order the software. IBM recommends internet delivery. In addition to internet and DVD, the supported tape delivery options include:

  • 3590
  • 3592

Most products can be ordered in ServerPac the month following their availability in CBPDO. z/OS can be ordered through CBPDO and ServerPac at general availability. Many products will also be orderable in a Product ServerPac without also having to order the z/OS operating system or subsystem.

Shopz and CFSW will determine the eligibility based on product requisite checking. For more details on the product ServerPac, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

For additional information on the Product ServerPac option, see Software Announcement 212-272, dated July 31, 2012.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after general availability.

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a lawful, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.

IBM Electronic Services

Top rule

Electronic Service Agent™ and the IBM Electronic Support web portal are dedicated to providing fast, exceptional support to IBM Systems customers. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Servers enabled with this tool can be monitored remotely around the clock by IBM Support, all at no additional cost to you.

Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX® V5.3, AIX V6.1, and AIX V7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM, which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type smitty esa_main, and select Configure Electronic Service Agent. In addition, ESA now includes a powerful web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. For more information and documentation on how to configure and use Electronic Service Agent, go to the IBM Electronic Support website.

The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent™ tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24 x 7 monitoring and reporting mean intervention is not required to report errors.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to securely transmit either through the internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system.

For additional information, go to the IBM Electronic Service Agent website.

More accurate reporting: Because system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support Center in conjunction with the service request, you are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBMid entered during activation, you can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the IBM Electronic Support page.

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with your IBMid. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, you are able to see search results that apply specifically to your systems.

For more information on how to utilize the power of IBM Electronic Services, contact your IBM Systems Services Representative, or go to the IBM Electronic Support website.

Sub-capacity charges for AWLC, AEWLC, CMLC, zNALC, VWLC, EWLC, and MWLC products

Sub-capacity charges for eligible products are based on product LPAR utilization capacity. Product LPAR utilization capacity for a sub-capacity product is the highest number of MSUs utilized by the combined LPARs in which the product runs concurrently during a reporting period. The number of MSUs is based on the highest observed rolling 4-hour average utilization used by the combination of the relevant LPARs during the reporting period.

Sub-capacity charges terms and conditions

z Systems® software charges at less than full machine capacity for eligible sub-capacity products apply when z/OS, z/TPF, or z/VSE® is running in z/Architecture® (64-bit) mode on an IBM z Systems® server, no other MVS™-based, TPF-based, or VSE-based operating system respectively is licensed to that server, and the required information is provided by the customer in accordance with the applicable terms.

Sub-capacity charges for a sub-capacity product are based on the utilization of the LPARs where/when the product executes. To obtain charges at less than full machine capacity for sub-capacity products, the customer is required to:

  • Sign and abide by the terms of one of the following:
    • Attachment for IBM System z® Advanced Workload License Charges (Z125-8538)
    • Attachment for IBM System z Advanced Entry Workload License Charges (Z125-8755)
    • Attachment for IBM Country Multiplex Pricing (Z126-6965)
    • Attachment for zNALC License Charges on IBM System z (Z125-7454)
    • Attachment for IBM System z Workload License Charges (Z125-6516
    • Attachment for EWLC, TWLC, zELC, and z/OS.e License Charges (Z125-6587)
    • Attachment for IBM System z Midrange Workload License Charges (Z125-7452)
  • Obtain the latest version of the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool.
  • Install any sub-capacity product and IBM z Systems Licensed Internal Code (LIC) service required for sub-capacity charging. Required service will be listed on the IBM z Systems Sub-Capacity website.
  • Collect SMF or SCRT89 data as required by the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool. Retain the collected data for a period of not less than six months.
  • Use the IBM provided Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool to process the collected SMF or SCRT89 data. The Sub-Capacity Report produced by the tool is used to determine required license capacity for the sub-capacity products. Required license capacity is determined based on the largest MSU value of a sub-capacity product running concurrently in all LPARs during the reporting period. IBM reserves the right to request the system data that supports these product-defined capacity values for a period of up to six months after the data was collected.
  • Provide an initial Sub-Capacity Report to begin to receive the benefits of less than full machine capacity charges. Sub-capacity charging will follow submission of a Sub-Capacity Report. There will be no retroactive application of sub-capacity charges.
  • Submit Sub-Capacity Reports monthly between the second and ninth days of the month after the reporting period.
  • Submit Sub-Capacity Reports for all sub-capacity products with complete data for the entire reporting period via the method specified on the IBM z Systems Sub-Capacity website.

Sub-Capacity Reports that reflect a changed product defined capacity will be considered to be orders placed by the customer without further action on the customer's part, and IBM is authorized to make any resulting billing increase or decrease, including the ordering of any necessary new licenses. To discontinue licenses, move licenses between machines, report a hardware model upgrade, or enable or disable product features, the customer must contact IBM or their IBM Business Partner.

  • Configure the machine to send weekly Transmit System Availability Data (TSAD) to IBM via the IBM z Systems Remote Support Facility (RSF). If the machine cannot connect via the RSF, provide this TSAD through an alternate means documented in the SCRT Users Guide (SG24-6522) publication on the IBM z Systems Sub-Capacity website.

PLC/ALC

Customers who pay a PLC and an ALC for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new functions may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately. If a replacement program is announced and the customer elects to license the replacement program for a PLC/ALC and replace the prior program, an upgrade charge may apply.

The first payment consists of the primary license charge and the annual license charge. The annual license charge applies yearly thereafter.

For additional product information, see Software Announcement 216-378, dated October 4, 2016.

Variable charges

The applicable processor based one-time charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed, the charge of the next higher group listed applies. For movement to a machine in a higher group, an upgrade charge equal to the difference in the then-current charges between the two groups will apply. For movement to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of charges paid.
