Overview
Bottom rule

DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS, V6.1 opens a new dimension for Accelerator deployment. Earlier versions of the Accelerator were defined as a high-performance appliance that integrate the IBM z Systems™ infrastructure with IBM PureData® System for Analytics, which is powered by IBM Netezza® technology. Version 6.1 expands support beyond the appliance model to also include a cloud-based option.

  • Delivers support for theDB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS on Cloud V1.1, which is built on the IBM SoftLayer® global cloud infrastructure and based on dashDB™ software.
  • Assists organizations on their journey to a hybrid cloud model with tight integration between appliance and cloud deployment options.
  • Speed and simplify the deployment of new or additional Accelerator instances with the option of deploying applicable workload on the cloud.

Beyond the support of the new cloud-base options, new functions are also available for the appliance based model:

  • Adds support for additional IBM Netezza Analytics stored procedures.
  • Enables support of R functions through the ibmdbR R-package.

Description
Bottom rule

The DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS offering is designed to complement DB2 for z/OS, which is built for transactional workloads. The Accelerator provides a cost-effective, high-speed query engine to run business-critical reporting and complex analytics workload. As part of its unique design, the DB2 Analytics Accelerator includes breakthrough technologies to reroute queries that are typically found in transactional workloads to DB2 for z/OS and queries that are typically found in analytics applications to the integrated IBM PureData System for Analytics appliance. DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS, V6.1 delivers the option to route applicable queries to DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS on Cloud V1.1.

DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS, V6.1 delivers a solid foundation for those z Systems™ clients who are on a journey toward a hybrid cloud implementation. It allows them to continue taking full advantage of their on-premise DB2 Analytics Accelerator deployments with the option to expand to a hybrid cloud model, thus opening the ability to turn DB2 for z/OS into a hybrid cloud database management system that is capable of handling both transactional and analytical workloads and to scale them independently. This hybrid cloud approach allows organizations that seek to offload some of their IT resources to the cloud while still maintaining the highest levels of security.

DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS, V6.1 includes enhanced IBM Netezza Analytics stored-procedure-package support for over 20 additional stored procedures, which include those for association rules, linear regression and generalized linear models. It also enables the R-functions that are available through the ibmdbR R-package. This addition enables in-database analytics on DB2 for z/OS by using R, which is the most popular language that is used by data scientists.

Accessibility by people with disabilities

Specified operating environment

Hardware requirements

Using the applicance model, DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS requires an appropriately sized IBM PureData System for Analytics. The size is determined by the required performance given the amount of data, number of users, the complexity of queries, and their arrival rate. This drives the configuration of the IBM PureData System for Analytics.

To use the cloud option DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS requires ordering the Cloud Service DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS on Cloud V1.1, refer to 216-456, dated October 18, 2016.

For details, refer to Prerequisites and Maintenance.

Software requirements

The DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS software requires:

  • z/OS V2.1, or later
  • DB2 V11.1 for z/OS, or later
  • DB2 Utilities Suite for z/OS, V11.1, or later

For details and for additional information regarding hardware and software requirements, refer to Prerequisites and Maintenance.

The program's specifications and specified operating environment information may be found in documentation accompanying the program, if available, such as a readme file, or other information published by IBM, such as an announcement letter. Documentation and other program content may be supplied only in the English language.

IBM Electronic Support

The IBM Support Portal is your gateway to technical support. This includes IBM Electronic Support tools and resources, for software and hardware, to help save time and simplify support. The Electronic Support tools can help you find answers to questions, download fixes, troubleshoot, automate data collection, submit and track problems through the Service Request online tool, and build skills. Charge metric

Program name Part number or PID number Charge metric
IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS 5697-DA6 Per PVU
IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator for for z/OS, V1.1 S&S 5697-SAA Per PVU

Using the appliance model the required PVU entitlement is dependent upon the configuration of the IBM PureData System for Analytics.

Using the cloud option, the Cloud Service DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS on Cloud V1.1. also needs to be ordered. The required PVU capacity entitlement is linked to the DB2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS on Cloud capacity.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip (socket). A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. The PVU table can be found on the PVU licensing for Distributed Software page. Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage® Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms found on the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules page. If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules that can be found on the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules page.

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies. Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a lawful, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
