Top rule
Product positioning
Bottom rule

IBM MobileFirst Protect leads in the Enterprise Mobile Management market in three key areas.

Complete approach to Enterprise Mobility Management

  • This includes powerful management capabilities to address all your requirements. Start with best practices mobility device management and evolve with your needs to more advanced management, such as our Mobile Application Management, app security, content management, productivity apps, and container solutions. A single console lets IT manage the entire mobile lifecycle, from deployment through configuration, security, monitoring, and support, with mixed device environments. Organizations can easily define and implement powerful compliance enforcement rules based on specific events, context, and location. Organizations can also leverage innovative features, such as container solutions in the IBM MobileFirst Protect Secure Productivity Suite and bring your own device (BYOD) privacy settings to protect the user's personal information.
  • Scalable solutions to meet the volume, speed, and variability of mobile. Mobile can grow fast within an organization and use cases can vary greatly. You need a solution that can grow with you and deal with the complexity of mobile. IBM MobileFirst Protect provides IT teams a wide range of mobile security options to separate corporate and personal information across different categories of users, devices, content, and apps, all within the context of their business. This gives organizations the flexibility to offer tiered or layered mobile management security to address the varied user needs and IT requirements, from mobility device management policies to stricter lockdown capabilities of corporate data for specific users. For businesses that need stringent security policy and compliance controls, such as those in the highly regulated healthcare and financial services industries, data containerization and dual-persona solutions can be especially helpful in making the BYOD experience more palatable for users.
    • With MobileFirst Protect, organizations can phase in BYOD and right size their mobile security investments for different classes of users, departments, geographies, devices, and applications, and apply the technology approach that best meets the need of those use cases, all from a unified platform.
    • MobileFirst Protect for on-premises deployments is delivered as an easy-to-install, industry-standard software appliance that enables you to start managing and securing your mobile assets quickly. It is designed so you can simply set up and configure the solution, and integrate with other key elements of the infrastructure, including email and identity management systems.
  • Seamless integration with existing systems. MobileFirst Protect provides plug-and-play action with your enterprise infrastructure, so you can secure and extend it to the mobile environment. Through the IBM MobileFirst Protect Cloud Extender and robust APIs, organizations can easily tie in with their existing infrastructure, extending their enterprise capabilities to a mobile environment. This approach allows them to leverage all their existing investments in enterprise infrastructure, such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft ActiveSync, Microsoft Office 365, IBM Notes Traveler, Active Directory, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), certificate authorities, reporting systems, help desk systems, or other third-party applications. The approach is not intrusive and does not sit in between a mail server and the user so it does not introduce any additional points of failure to an organization's environment.
    • Organizations can integrate with technologies from IBM and third-party products to provide a robust and scalable solution. These unique, prepackaged solutions enable you to deploy apps and content on any device with confidence.

Licensing metric definitions

Managed Client Device

Managed Client Device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Client Device is a single user computing device or special purpose sensor or telemetry device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from or provides data to another computer system that is typically referred to as a server or is otherwise managed by the server. Multiple Client Devices may share access to a common server. A Client Device may have some processing capability or be programmable to allow a user to do work. Licensee must obtain Managed Client Device entitlements for every Client Device managed by the program.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User given access to the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

Electronic Service Agent™ and the IBM Electronic Support web portal are dedicated to providing fast, exceptional support to IBM Systems customers. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Servers enabled with this tool can be monitored remotely around the clock by IBM Support, all at no additional cost to you.

Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX® V5.3, AIX V6.1, and AIX V7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM, which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type smitty esa_main, and select Configure Electronic Service Agent. In addition, ESA now includes a powerful web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. For more information and documentation on how to configure and use Electronic Service Agent, refer to

http://www.ibm.com/support/electronic

The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent™ tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24x7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to securely transmit either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system.

For additional information, refer to IBM Electronic Service Agent

http://www.ibm.com/support/esa/

More accurate reporting: Because system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, you are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, you can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at

http://www.ibm.com/support/electronic

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with your IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, you are able to see search results that apply specifically to your systems.
