Description |
IBM MQ Light V1.0 makes it easy for developers to incorporate asynchronous messaging into their applications to help make them responsive and more scalable. Applications developed with IBM MQ Light can be deployed against a number of different IBM messaging offerings to give users the flexibility to choose the appropriate messaging server without having to re-write the application code. Applications can be deployed with IBM MQ Light for quick and simple deployments that give the user complete control. Applications can also be deployed into the IBM Bluemix Cloud by using the IBM MQ Light for Bluemix messaging service to take advantage of a completely managed cloud service. IBM plans for them to be deployed using IBM MQ. For details on the previously published statement of direction, refer to Software Announcement 214-177, dated April 22, 2014.
IBM MQ Light makes it easy to set up a development environment because developers can unzip IBM MQ Light to anywhere appropriate on their file system. There are no prerequisites. Users can be up and running instantly by using the single start script. For new users, there are examples and tutorials to demonstrate how applications can use messaging to easily scale and become more responsive. For existing users, once stated, there is no administration so they can write their application code.
The IBM MQ Light API makes constructing an application easy, and the growing range of languages supported allows developers to use the appropriate language for each component. IBM MQ Light delivers a common messaging model that connects all components together. The API that is based on the open AMQP1.0 standard makes it easy for users to extend the existing APIs or create new APIs in other programming languages.
The IBM MQ Light user interface provides a user with a comprehensive insight of not only what is happening within IBM MQ Light, but also what has previously happened and what applications are connected to it. This information is vital to help developers create loosely coupled applications by helping them understand what data is flowing and has previously flowed between components, as well as where each of the messages has been distributed.
Accessibility by people with disabilities
A US Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) containing details on accessibility compliance can be requested at
Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act
IBM MQ Light V1.0 is capable, when used in accordance with IBM documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.
|
Product positioning |
The IBM MQ family of messaging transports provides a messaging backbone with a range of capabilities for the enterprise, both intercompany and intracompany. The objective of the IBM MQ brand is to offer a comprehensive suite of seamless, interconnected transport protocols, and quality-of-service levels:
- IBM MQ Server, the core of application integration, is a highly effective messaging backbone for service-oriented architecture (SOA) connectivity, as the universal, multipurpose data transport. It connects virtually any commercial IT system, with support for more than 80 platform configurations. MQ includes a choice of APIs and interoperates with the Java Message Service (JMS) messaging services embedded in WebSphere® Application Server. This extends its reach to non-Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) environments. WebSphere MQ is a flexible and scalable connectivity solution that can grow incrementally with changing business needs.
- IBM MQ can be enhanced through additional capabilities delivered with the product. It provides managed file transfer and end-to-end message encryption and security, and access to mobile and remotely connected physical devices.
- WebSphere MQ Managed File Transfer adds file-specific features to the WebSphere MQ transport. It delivers a managed file transfer solution that can enable the movement of files between IT systems with reliability and without the need for programming. This is available with additional entitlement or as a part of IBM MQ Advanced entitlement.
- IBM MQ Advanced Message Security expands the security offered by IBM MQ with end-to-end data protection for applications and it can be deployed to existing production environments without changes to existing IBM MQ applications. IBM MQ Advanced Message Security is available with additional entitlement or as a part of IBM MQ Advanced entitlement.
- IBM MQ Telemetry extends IBM MQ through clients using Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT), which is a standard, lightweight connectivity protocol. This enables connected physical devices and mobile devices, which may be restricted by bandwidth and power consumption, to exchange information with IBM MQ. Included as a part of MQ Advanced entitlement, but it requires separate entitlement if no IBM MQ Advanced licenses are owned.
- IBM MQ Advanced can be purchased as a single part number to provide entitlement to IBM MQ, WebSphere MQ Managed File Transfer Service, IBM MQ Advanced Message Security, and IBM MQ Telemetry for deployment on distributed systems.
- WebSphere MQ for z/OS® exploits the platform-specific capabilities of the IBM System z® platform to deliver a messaging powerhouse.
- WebSphere MQ Advanced for z/OS can be purchased in one transaction for entitlement to WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition for z/OS and WebSphere MQ Advanced Message Security for z/OS. It requires separate entitlement for WebSphere MQ for z/OS.

Statement of good security practices |
IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.

IBM Electronic Services |
Electronic Service Agent and the IBM Electronic Support web portal are dedicated to providing fast, exceptional support to IBM Systems customers. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Servers enabled with this tool can be monitored remotely around the clock by IBM Support, all at no additional cost to you.
Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX® V5.3, AIX V6.1, and AIX V7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM, which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type smitty esa_main, and select Configure Electronic Service Agent. In addition, ESA now includes a powerful web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. For more information and documentation on how to configure and use Electronic Service Agent, refer to
The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.
Benefits
Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24x7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.
Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool securely transmits via either the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide you a single point of exit from your site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into your system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewable only by you and IBM. Your business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM.
More accurate reporting: Because system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, you are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.
Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, you can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at
My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with your IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, you are able to see search results that apply specifically to your systems.
