IBM® WebSphere® Service Registry and Repository Advanced Lifecycle Edition V7.0 stores, catalogs, and flexibly organizes assets and services; it allows customers to get a handle on what assets they have, making it easy to locate or distribute. This robust solution captures dependencies between services and applications, reducing risk with exposure to the business when making changes (or upgrading). With the ability to report on key metrics, WebSphere Service Registry and Repository Advanced Lifecycle Edition is a key ingredient to plan, assess, and improve assets and associated policies. This solution integrates with customers' existing SOA infrastructure and has designed-in capabilities to federate and leverage service information to and from other sources.

WebSphere Service Registry and Repository Advanced Lifecycle Edition is composed of:

  • WebSphere Service Registry and Repository, V7.0
  • IBM Rational® Asset Manager, V7.2

This comprehensive solution integrates service life cycle governance and asset management to deliver service and functionality:

  • Enables service design time to run time lifecycle governance through prescriptive service life cycle models. The service life cycle governance is powered by underlying design to federate metadata across the design time and run time stages with policies enabling proactive decision-making capabilities.
  • Establish governance of relationship between services with the associated business case and impacted business processes. Align IT with business by making better investment choices. Respond quickly to business needs, maximize return on investment, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Respond to changing customer demands, by correlating requirements management with service life cycle management, giving reduced effort and duplication in tracking requirements to services.
  • Leverage the collaborative software development asset management solution that provides best practices to efficiently govern and reuse software assets in an organizationally distributed development environment. This helps you identify, manage, and govern the design, development, release packages, and consumption of services as part of a service-oriented architecture initiative or other reusable assets for various development environments.
  • Minimize service outages and inefficiency with the ability to easily collaborate ownership of services and related assets, providing more informed changes based on better understanding of impact on stakeholders.
  • Utilize service contract and version management to meet changing business needs and service levels. This allows customer to maintain multiple service versions and manage expectations by facilitating contracts between service providers and consumers, resulting in reduced costs and increased efficiency. Protects investments and avoids downtime.
  • Improve reporting. Audit and reports to pinpoint the information necessary to control, providing various reports to fulfill business needs and track compliance, resulting in lower costs of compliance and avoidance of costly penalties.
  • Reuse existing services and protect investments with service discovery for Oracle/BEA and JBOSS. WebSphere Service Registry and Repository provides an enterprise service repository supporting a heterogeneous environment, giving cost savings in leveraging existing IT investments.
  • Manage software assets across the entire Application Lifecycle Management, leveraging new support for IBM Jazz™ technology; reduce time to deliver by centralizing on a strategic platform.
  • Acquire new analysis and reporting to better understand what assets you have, how to reduce duplication, and bring the most benefit to the organization.
  • Improve usability to save time submitting assets, and increase adoption of asset management practices

Without proactive service life cycle governance and management of service metadata in an SOA, it is difficult to optimize business results of SOA that indicate challenges in managing and a general lack of control over customers services. These typically include:

  • High development and maintenance costs with slow time-to-market
  • Much time and effort making changes to applications and processes; missed deadlines
  • IT capabilities, skills, and assets that can be leveraged is unknown
  • Trade-off between higher costs and customer satisfaction in serving varying customer needs

WebSphere Service Registry and Repository component integrates and complements numerous solutions from IBM, as well as external solutions from Business Partners, including:

  • Enhanced connectivity by increasing runtime flexibility of applications integrated using the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) related products including WebSphere Datapower, WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), WebSphere Message Broker.
  • Optimized use of services in SOA by exchanging rich service information with runtime monitoring tools and operational data stores including IBM Tivoli® Composite Application Manager (ITCAM) for SOA, IBM Tivoli Change Configuration Management Database (CCMDB).
  • Enabled governance and life cycle management of your high-value applications, such as WebSphere MQ, and CICS®.
  • Enabled policy management across the SOA lifestyle, spanning various domains of policies including runtime policies as well as service governance policies.
  • The Service Federation Management Console simplifies the process of sharing business services between service domains.
  • Integration across Business Process Management solution as a foundation for service governance and metadata.

Rational Asset Manager component provides:

  • New Jazz-driven life cycle management capabilities to manage asset workflow from concept, development, build, deployment, and retirement.
  • New integrations with IBM Rational Team Concert and other Jazz products. Connect and federate an asset's metadata with the related Jazz Application Lifecycle Managed resources.
  • Updated SOA Asset Libraries.
  • New Build Forge® integration combines assets with the software assembly process.
  • Role-based client access licenses for collaborators who can search, use, and collaborate on assets.
  • Capability for publishers who also require the ability to publish and review assets.

You can purchase WebSphere Service Registry and Repository Advanced Lifecycle Edition as a standalone solution; or with existing WebSphere Service Registry and Repository licenses, you can add authorized user licenses to get to Advanced Lifecycle Edition functionality. To comply with the terms and conditions, when you purchase WebSphere Service Registry and Repository Advanced Lifecycle Edition solution as standalone product, customer must order both the Processor Value Unit (PVU) (full capacity or sub capacity) and authorized user part numbers. For details of the purchasing scenarios, refer to the Description section of the announcement letter.

For ordering, contact your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: YE001).

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which this software product can be licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor technology (defined within the PVU table1 by processor vendor, brand, type and model number). IBM continues to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. Each software product has a unique price per PVU. To determine the total cost of deploying an individual software product in a specific hardware environment, you must take the following steps:

  1. For each processor core in the hardware environment on which the software product is to be licensed, determine the PVU requirement based on its processor technology per the PVU table1.
  2. Add the PVU requirements for all processor cores in the hardware environment.
  3. Multiply the software product's price per PVU by the total number of PVUs required as determined in step 2 above.

PVU entitlements are specific to a software product and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another software product.

Unless you have deployed eligible sub-capacity products according to the sub-capacity1 terms, you must obtain PVU Proof of Entitlements (PoEs) for the maximum number of activated2 physical processor cores in the hardware environment made available to or managed by the software product. This is also referred to as full capacity licensing.

1 For information regarding PVU and sub-capacity licensing, including the latest PVU table, please visit

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

2 Activated processor cores are physical processor cores that are available for use in a server. They include processor cores:

  • That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the manufacturer
  • That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from the server manufacturer by the customer
  • Whose capacity can be limited by the customer through Virtualization technologies, Operating System commands and BIOS settings.

Authorized user

Authorized user is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. An authorized user is an individual (named or unnamed) within or outside of your enterprise. The program may be installed on one or more computers or servers and accessed by the number of users authorized by the Proof of Entitlement (PoE). You must have an entitlement for each authorized user accessing the program or any program component in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.
