The IBM Storwize V7000 again provides customers with drives that have greater capacities and better performance characteristics to increase their ability to consolidate workloads into a single storage system for even greater efficiency. New 2.5-inch Solid State MLC 200 GB and 400 GB drives provide high-speed access to data. For use with the 24-bay enclosures, the new drives can be used to store frequently accessed data, or improve efficiency of the whole Storwize V7000 through the use of Easy Tier™. For users with high-capacity requirements, the new 3.5-inch 3 TB Nearline SAS drives allow consolidation of up to 36 TB of raw capacity in a 2U frame.

Specific options for IBM Storwize V7000 must be ordered during the initial plant order for the IBM Storwize V7000 system. Refer to the Description section for details.

IBM Storwize V7000 with 3 new drive options

The new 200 GB and 400 GB MLC SSD drive options offer new capacity and price points for high-performance data access. Frequently accessed data can be quickly accessed from volumes on these drives, or overall system performance can be improved by incorporating the SSDs for use with the IBM Storwize V7000 function Easy Tier. The 2.5-inch SSD drive options are for use in the 24-bay Control and Expansion Enclosures (2076 models 124, 224, 324).

The new 3 TB NearLine SAS drive option increases the storage density in the 12-bay Control and Expansion enclosures (2076 models 112, 212, 312).

New disk drives

  • 3 TB 3.5-inch 7.2K RPM NL SAS HDD (feature number 3303): This is an optional feature for a single 3 TB 3.5-inch Near Line SAS disk drive with 7.2K RPM speed for installation in a 12-bay IBM Storwize V7000 Control enclosure (2076-112, or 2076-312), or a 12-bay IBM Storwize V7000 Expansion enclosure (2076-212). This feature may be ordered during an initial plant order or as a field (MES) order in any quantity from one up to the twelve intermixed total drives allowed within the enclosures.
  • 200 GB 2.5-inch E-MLC SSD (feature number 3512): This is an optional feature for a single Enterprise-grade multi-level cell 200 GB 2.5-inch Solid State Device (SSD) to be installed inside either a 24-bay IBM Storwize V7000 Control Enclosure (2076-124 or 2076-324) or a 24-bay IBM Storwize V7000 Expansion Enclosure (2076-224). This feature number may be ordered during an initial plant order or as a field (MES) order in any quantity from one up to twenty-four total intermixed drives allowed with in the enclosure.
  • 400 GB 2.5-inch E-MLC SSD (feature number 3514): This is an optional feature for a single Enterprise-grade multi-level cell 400 GB 2.5-inch Solid State Device (SSD) to be installed inside either a 24-bay IBM Storwize V7000 Control Enclosure (2076-124 or 2076-324) or a 24-bay IBM Storwize V7000 Expansion Enclosure (2076-224). This feature number may be ordered during an initial plant order or as a field (MES) order in any quantity from 1 up to the 24 total intermixed drives allowed within the enclosure.
  • Bulk Ordering Feature Ind. (feature number 5555): This feature designates bulk MES ordering capability for selected features of IBM Storwize V7000. SSDs are not included with those features available using the Bulk Ordering Feature Indicator feature. Specifying this feature on MES orders will allow ordering of up to a maximum of 99 features. This bulk ordering feature is available for the current drive options and the following new feature:
    • 3 TB 3.5-inch 7.2K RPM NL SAS HDD (feature number 3303)

Planning information

You are responsible for downloading or obtaining from IBM, and installing designated Machine Code (microcode, basic input/output system code (called BIOS), utility programs, device drivers, and diagnostics delivered with an IBM machine) and other software updates in a timely manner from an IBM Internet website or from other electronic media, and following the instructions that IBM provides. An IBM part or feature added to a machine without replacing a previously installed part or feature is subject to a full warranty effective on its date of installation. Unless specified otherwise, the warranty period, type of warranty service, and service level of a part or feature is the same as the machine it is installed.
