Overview

IBM Business Process Manager V8.5.6

IBM BPM V8.5.6 is a comprehensive platform that offers enhanced visibility and management of your business processes. It includes tooling and run time for process design and execution, along with capabilities for monitoring and optimizing work that is executed within the platform. It is specifically designed to enable process owners and business users to engage directly in the improvement of their business processes. This collaboration between business and IT enables superior time to value and improved user productivity as compared to traditional methods of development.

A highly integrated environment that scales smoothly and easily from initial project to enterprise-wide program, IBM BPM V8.5.6 is designed for easy deployment and ready to use immediately or as an easily customizable configuration.

Improved interoperability between IBM BPM and ECM allows you to use an external ECM to store case-related content. New APIs provide the ability to link cases to obtain a 360 degree view of a case.

IBM BPM offers a PureApplication System pattern configuration that is optimized to help accelerate the setup and management of complex, highly available, business process environments. Previously available as a separate product, the pattern configuration for IBM BPM is now available as an additional download for IBM BPM V8.5.6 Advanced clients.

If you are using multiple process servers within your production environment to help scale, migrate, and manage platform stability, you can now take advantage of the new BPM federation capability to access distributed task data from a single source. This facilitates the ability to build a single user interface for business users to access and execute all their tasks without needing to be aware of either the task implementation or origin. You can leave existing processes to run on earlier IBM BPM levels while you migrate to the latest IBM BPM level or migrate them over an extended period of time. Processes can be isolated by deploying them to different process servers and production environments can massively scale by adding additional process servers.

There are numerous quality improvements in this release that result in improved operations and user experience. This includes new features and performance improvements for both web-inspector and snapshot installation. Advanced integration service deployment are simplified. System downtime can be reduced or avoided by allowing operations to monitor system health, identify potential issues before they occur, and isolate issues more easily. New migration capabilities allow you to upgrade to the next major BPM release more easily.

New mobile capabilities are introduced:

  • Plug-in adaptors for MobileFirst IDE make it easier to build mobile applications that access IBM BPM by using secure REST APIs. -
  • Technical demonstrations of Responsive Federated Portal, Responsive Coach Toolkit are available as samples on IBM BPM Developer Center for customers to exploit the federation and mobile capabilities provided by IBM BPM V8.5.6.
  • Generate a MobileFirst mobile application directly from a coach.

Business Monitor V8.5.6

Business Monitor V8.5.6 delivers comprehensive, operational intelligence capabilities that offer business users and managers visibility into real-time, end-to-end business operations, transactions, and processes to help increase revenue, lower costs, and improve service. The monitoring capabilities of Business Monitor, which complement those of IBM BPM, enhance the ability to have visibility into key business transactions that execute in multiple systems across the enterprise.

Business Monitor provides customizable dashboards that calculate and display key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics that are derived from business transactions, processes, business activity data, and business events. Business users can view dashboards through lightweight web interfaces, mobile devices, and corporate portals. They can also drill into specific transaction and process instances.

Business Monitor V8.5.6 also offers a pattern configuration of Business Monitor that is optimized to run on the PureApplication System. The pattern configuration is optimized to help accelerate the setup and management of complex, highly available, business monitor environments. It enables you to focus your critical resources on value-add activities instead of installation and configuration.

Description
Bottom rule

IBM BPM V8.5.6

IBM BPM V8.5.6 offers process federation as a built-in capability of both IBM BPM Standard and IBM BPM Advanced editions. A new Liberty-based Process Federation Server is used to provide access to distributed task data from multiple process servers that use a single API. This facilitates the ability for you to provide business users with a single user interface to access and execute all their tasks without needing to be aware of either the task implementation or origin. Responsive Federated Portal and Responsive Coach Toolkit samples are available to use if you want to exploit the built-in federation and mobile capabilities. You can move to the latest level of IBM BPM while leaving your existing processes to run on on earlier IBM BPM levels. You can choose to migrate applications over an extended period and isolate processes by deploying them to different process servers. Production environments can then massively scale by adding additional process servers as required, without impacting the user experience.

New mobile capabilities include:

  • Plug-in adaptors for MobileFirst IDE that make it easier to build mobile applications that access IBM BPM with secure REST APIs.
  • Generation of a MobileFirst mobile application directly from a coach definition.

Improved BPM/ECM interoperability allows you to use an external ECM to store case-related content. New APIs provide the ability to link cases to obtain a 360-degree view of a case.

You can take advantage of numerous quality improvements that are introduced in Version 8.5.6 to improve operations and user experiences.

  • There are new features and performance improvements for both web-inspector and snapshot installation.
  • Advanced integration service deployment are simplified.
  • System downtime can be reduced by allowing operations to monitor system health, identify potential issues before they occur and isolate issues more easily.
  • Use new migration capabilities to upgrade more easily from an earlier BPM release.

IBM BPM V8.5.6 is also deployable as a pattern that can be used with other pattern parts to create application configurations for deployment on PureApplication System (W2700, W2500, W1700, and W1500), PureApplication Service on SoftLayer.® This support is designed to give you an elastic, highly available, and production-ready configuration that is easy to set up, manage, and scale. Using this pattern helps reduce setup and management of your business process solutions. You can focus critical resources on value-add activities and accelerate the expansion of IBM BPM from a project to a program across your enterprise.

Also in IBM BPM V8.5.6, mobile-optimized UIs can be created with new WYSIWYG tooling that enables the design of responsive Process Coaches. These coach UIs are targeted for multiple mobile device form factors: small (phone), medium (tablet) and large (desktop). User interactions on mobile devices can also be optimized by taking advantage of new client-side services that are downloaded and cached on the device.

IBM MobileFirst™ Platform Foundation V6.3 for Non-production Environment helps enable you to develop rich, cross-platform applications that can access the full capabilities of a wide range of mobile devices. MobileFirst can help reduce time to market, cost, and complexity of development, while enabling an optimized customer and employee-user experience across multiple environments.

Note: MobileFirst Platform Foundation for Non-production Environment is packaged with IBM BPM Standard V8.5.6 and IBM BPM Advanced V8.5.6 for optional use.

Beginning with V8.5.5, IBM BPM offers improved event handling performance with the Dynamic Event Framework (DEF) as an alternative to the Common Event Infrastructure (CEI). With IBM BPM V8.5.6, clients interested in subscribing to IBM BPM events through the DEF can receive them in XML format on a Java™ Message Queue (JMS).

Business Monitor V8.5.6

Business Monitor provides the ability to automatically generate dashboards for any monitor model, greatly simplifying the authoring experience for defining end-to-end monitoring where event sources span systems and products.

Business Monitor helps you:

  • Customize access to powerful new visualizations of data.

Based on Cognos Business Intelligence V10.2.2, Monitor users have access to and can customize new and innovative chart types as well as more interactive versions of existing charts. IBM Rapidly Adaptive Visualization Engine (RAVE) visualizations enhance the Cognos Active Report consumption experience across consumption environments that include mobile devices. Report authors benefit from an improved authoring experience when RAVE visualizations are used. Enhanced flexibility provides the opportunity to customize charts to meet business-specific needs.

  • Enable insight where and when you need it. Business Monitor V8.5.6 supports the Cognos Mobile application for iPad to view Business Monitor reports from iPad mobile devices.

Business Monitor V8.5.6 is also deployable as a pattern that can be used with other pattern parts to create application configurations for deployment on PureApplication System (W2700, W2500, W1700, and W1500), PureApplication Service on SoftLayer. This support is designed to give you an elastic, highly available, and production-ready configuration that is easy to set up, manage, and scale. Using this pattern helps reduce setup and management of your business process solutions. This enables you to focus critical resources on value-add activities and accelerate the expansion of Business Monitor from a project to a program across your enterprise.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User given access to the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case, the following applies. Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the program or that is otherwise managed by the program is considered a separate user of the program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. The PVU table can be found at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the web page below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at
http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_sp ecific_virtualization_technologies.html

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies. Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.

Terms and conditions
Bottom rule

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

This product is only available via Passport Advantage.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Yes

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect.

This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
